Sometimes when I drive my 86, there is a sound coming from behind the dash (speedometer area). It almost sounds like mice crawling around, I really dont know what it could be. Any help?

It could be your speedo cable going bad.....or, it could be a mouse

If it is a mouse, that would explain my alt. to batt. wire that went bad. I rather deal with stuff like this then pay 400/month for a car thats all plastic. My wifes new impala is nice, but if feels like im sitting in a tupperware container. Thanks for the info.

I know what you mean about the plastic feel and I agree with you. I really hope it is just a mouse as getting behind the dash to access removal of the cable can be a real pain. BTW, if you find it is a mouse or think it is, don't leave poison out to kill it, you will and then it will stink to high heaven in the car. A trap might be better, then you can dispose of the body.....

You could stuff a cat in there to get that mouse! just make sure that you tie something to its tail, or its back to square 1!!

it's probably the speedo cable I just had to replace mine and it was making similar noises. Do you notice it only when you're moving or can you be parked and hear the noises? I believe you should only hear the noises when you're moving if it's the speedo cable. you can get them on ebay if you need...
