Good afternoon all
I'm in process of rebuilding my Frigidaire AC compressor for my 69 442 and would like your help locating a seal kit for rebuild and any help location instructions for doing this. I'm presently using my CSM but the illustrations are mostly unreadable. I am having my hoses rebuilt at the same time

banny here is also a knowledgeable A/C guy. The ceramic shaft seals and general seal kits are available at A/C specialist suppliers, such as ackits.com. Note that it takes a handful of special tools to R&R the shaft seal. Those are typically available at suppliers or on ebay. There are guides out there on the internet, and a couple of good videos on youtube, just look for "a6 compressor rebuild".
The problem doing it at home will be telling whether or not there's damage to hard parts and any need to replace rings or resurface pistons/bores. I took one A6 apart for kicks, and removing the oil pickup certainly is tricky.

I just now spoke with him and he was very helpful. I feel a lot better after talking to him as I may not have any real problem with my compressor. His advice will allow mw to reservice the system after I get my lines back from repair and hope for the best.

I believe that I have my AC system mostly under control. Compressor is wait and see, hoses being rebuilt, now just need to find an original style dryer if they are to be found.

Do any of you AC gurus have a picture of an original AC dryer for a 69 442? Dryers that will fit do not look like the dryer that is on my car.
Anyone that may have a source for an original style dryer your help will be greatly appreciated

The only way to get the original style is to send yours to Classic Auto Air and have them rebuild it. Nobody makes one like the original any more. Classic Auto Air will cut them apart and replace the filter and weld them back together.

My issue with this is that I don't know if mine is stock to the vehicle. I would like to see what an original one looks like for a 69 442.

I'll bet that you'll have difficulty getting a photo that is "guaranteed" original. If there was an original owner out there that had never changed it in 47 years or saved the original it would be possible. I have a '65 but it's a different part number. The group is 9.195. The part is 3046236. Supposedly the attached photos are of a 3012944 which was used on the same year Corvette and is expected to interchange with 3046236 (but may not be exact?). I don't know what accounts for the difference; internal, external, or both. 3046236 supposedly was used from 1968-72 on the Olds (but not Toronado). The expanded search years may help some.

Those photos look about right - in '69 the receiver had a sight glass, which the new ones likely do not have.

Remember that if you find a sealed original, it will have dessicant compatible with R12 but not R134.
If it's not sealed, it's garbage, unless you want a core to be rebuilt.

This looks very similar to what I currently have installed and similar to the pics that Ozzie posted.
I stripped the paint off mine and it looks the same to me.
Now to find a place for an estimate to overhaul mine. With shipping, I don't believe I can have mine overhauled for the price of Supercars new price

Mine doesn't have the pronounced ribs at the ends of the flats or the fitting on the outlet, but again it's a '65 with a different part number from yours.

The ribs the you see are the "stack of dimes" look when its tig welded. The fitting you see is just a basically just a plastic cap.

Hello all
I hopefully have completed my AC work for my 69 442 today.
I have rebuilt the A6 compressor, had all hoses rebuilt and replaced the dryer.
Over the weekend I pressure checked the system with nitrogen and Vacuumed the system for a good 24 hrs down to 29.9 HG and today had the system serviced with R12.
All seems to work great with air temp at the vent @ 36* (OAT @ 92*)
I still need to adjust the RPM up a little bit. With AC on idle drops to aprox 450 -500 RPM and wants to die. At AC shop I turned idle up so it idles a little high now and too high with AC off. Hopefully I dont run into any other AC related issues and system keeps blowing cold.
