How many of you have an Omega??
#41
My parents owned a '75 Omega brand new. I drove it many times as a high school kid at the time. Years later it went to my older sister for her first car upon graduating college. It racked up over 175,000 miles on the 260 V-8 before the body just gave out from rust. She lived around Buffalo NY.
It was dark brown w/ cream color vinyl top and Wire hubcaps...not a bad looking ride.

Yes you could use an electric fuel pump and block off the opening for the mechanical fuel pump. Why are you set on using the Edelbrock heads? Stock Oldsmobile heads work great and are cheaper. Unless you plan on racing and want that extra edge I guess.....Are you planning on spending a lot of money on the block too? What kind of camshaft and pistons are you going to use?
I am set on using the Edelbrock heads because they are aluminum and will give my engine more power and who dosent want more power under their hood. I have a new edelbrock performer rpm camshaft installed and i will be using some speedpro flat top pistons. I had the engine honed out and cleaned and had new freeze plugs and cam bearings installed and the engine shop the owner of the shop said that the engine was in very good condition and didnt need to be bored out unless i wanted it to be so i just had him hone it out. Another reason i am dead set on using the heads from edelbrock is the reason that they have the performer rpm cam and heads and the intake all dyno matched for peak performance. I want a nice strong running engine and one that will have the power there when i smash that gas pedal. I am looking for at least 400 hp when all is said and done. Also the headers that i will be using are the hooker super comp headers. I also had my crank polished and cleaned up and the engine shop owener said that was in very good shape also. When i took the engine aprart there was nothing wrong with it, it ran fine no knocks no leaks but i just want more power is all.

Well i was going back and forth about what heads to use and i have decided to just go with the edelbrock heads. I went to the engine shop and he said it would be around 500 buck to rebuild the heads including parts and labor. So i am not going to pay that 500 now when i planned on putting aluminum heads on it later on anyways so i might as well save the money and use that 500 towards the aluminum heads. I have some pics of the engine bay im going to post. In the pics you can see that i have closed up the holes in the fire wall and have undercoated and painted.

OH yeah you can see the buckets ive installed in place of the bench seat so i could install a floor shifter i got those for 30 bucks i just need to get them recovered had to drill some new holes but everything came out good.

Well, we went to move our olds (on a tow truck) to our new house and found that the freeze-out plugs had blown over the winter...so much for garage storage... He got a late 60s 350 small block (sorry to the hard-core-keep-it-original peeps) we're going to end up dropping in it once it's built. We're going to keep the numbers matching engine on the side and I suppose we'll eventually rebuild it. He (my SO) is on the lookout for what he needs to get her running now, but I doubt she'll be ready this season. I was kinda hoping.....

Any updates on the Omega. How is the engine swap/rebuild going?

How many of you have an Omega??
I have a white 78, and have found that no fiberglass parts from a Nova front will work. My Omega has a header panel, and hood ends there. The Nova hood comes to top of grill and closes on top of it. I will post pictures when the children are home to help me. I am currently replacing the V/6 with 455 .060 over. I will try to start posting pictures as I go. I once had a 69 Nova that came from the factory with a 396, so it should be possible to swap the big block into the Nova.

Picked up a 74 Omega in October 2011. The two folks that had it before me were trying to make a race car out of it. Some of the things they did to it were on the right track but I need a mess of parts to get it back to safe street duty. Gonna be a fun winter/spring getting it ready for the street again. Thankfully it still has an Olds drivetrain!!

I have a 73 Omega. It is all original. The car was originally purchased new in 73 by my grandparents and was garage kept with the exception of the truck which hung out of the garage. In the early 90's, my dad finally took the facotry plastic off the seats. When my Grandmother passed away in 96, the car had around 26,000 miles. Then my little brother got it. He drove the life out of the car, then parked it in a pasture. I captured the car in 2005 as a hopeful restoration project with my youngest daughter. We have not touched the car except to sand the surface rust off the roof and trunk lid and sprayed cheap primer on these areas. The truck deck is rusted out. The front suspension is shot. Truns over but does not start. Now we are thinking about selling it, although my heart says work on it. I love this car, with the 350 rocket.

Exactly correct. How many times have you've seen a primer car with rust coming through?
#61
It has been in my garage for 3-4 years. We are getting ready to move back to Oklahoma where we will not have a garage nor a place to store or work on the car. I am most likely going to keep it to work on, but I also don't want it to just sit and rust if it can be restored by someone with the time and money to take care of it. I will have to pull it 750 miles back to Oklahoma.

Hey guys & gals,
I found a '74 Nova hatchback in a yard yesterday with most if not all of the fold down rear seat stuff. I know some of you are looking for some of these parts. Give me a call if you want. The yard is reasonable & if you want anything, let me know quickly before it gets crushed.
I've got pictures & can put them up here if anyone wants to see the stuff.

your link goes to your 400+ pictures . . . do you have picture of the car you mentioned? IF so, can you post a direct link so we don't have to look through ALL of your pictures searching for them??
Thanks

Well, I have a front drive Omega which of course is in a thread here. I like it and it's certainly something you either love or hate. It was certainly abused and left to rot in the junkyard when I rescued it. It's coming along and this particular model has it's own piece of GM history as the first GM vehicle to use the plastic body panels. Obviously it was not liked by many since only 696 were produced.

No, this is 1981. Too early for TBI even by 1 year. It originally had the 2.8 carbed V6 but when I bought it it had an Iron Duke resting in the engine bay that wasn't hooked up. After they butchered the harness I think they gave up or something. Either way it once again has a 60 degree V6 sitting in there. I'm going to leave it carbed but it's a 3400 that's been retrofitted with the iron heads/necessary pistons/carb intake modified to clear the roller lifter retainers in the lifter valley. When I get the exhaust made I'llpost some pics of that. The early X's(front drive ones I mean) had a different floor pan so the front exhaust pipe ran down and under the front of the oil pan/balancer area and Y'ed together a little before the converter. I'm using 2 left hand manifolds from a 92 3.1 Camaro. With the serpentine belt front cover and the smaller 3400 style starter I'll be able to make really nice front pipes using 2" mandrel bent tubing and coming together in front of the converter and then making the intermediate pipe from 2 1/2".

I have decied to sell my 73 Omega. We are moving to the country where it would just sit in the weeds. I am thinking about listing it on Ebay with a $1,000 reserve. I will be taking some pics in the near future. Green with some grey primer, trunk is rusted out. It will need a complete restore including the motor and front suspension. It actually has about 50,000 miles and given the age, most of the seals have dried out. It is mostly complete from what I can tell.

Located in Fort Wayne, IN. The interior is a standard Bench seat, still in good condition for the age. It hase a 350 Rocket with a 4 berral quadrajet, automatic transmission. The car is GM green with green interior. Glass is all good. Interior floors are rough due to work boots being in and out of the car.

Im the proud new owner of a 74 omega, currently building it up with a 455 and a TH400, soon it will have a ford 9" too. if anyone ever has any big block swap questions, let me know haha! its not as easy as one would think

Thinking of selling mine already,lol.. My son loves driving it, and it's quicker than my 69 nova. Any serious takers, and I'll give you a list of what's been done. The only reason I'm thinking of selling is getting another nova, and there's a few around me that sound interesting. $10,500, and negotiable...

73 Oldsmobile Omega
I just bought a 73 Omega. Didn't take long to find this site and all the good information it has about Olds. I am looking forward to getting it back on the road. 350 Rocket with an automatic. I liked it because it WASN'T a Nova or a Chevy.

which is why most of us own oldsmobiles, that and we like to go fast and get good gas mileage. any chance of scoring some up close photos of where the body meets the bumpers? i was thinking about putting 73 bumpers on my 74
