We are back to our regularly scheduled program here now.
This is supposed to be a helpful family friendly website and this weeks BS posts have been deleted.
There are plenty of other Olds websites where we are free to go be jerks on. Please do not bring it here.

This thread does not deserve to be closed, but it has definitely been a controversial issue, and offensive to die hard Olds fans on this website. Remember, people come here first for Oldsmobiles, and second to learn while having a good time. I enjoyed learning about these motors in this thread.

There shouldn't be any arguments over Chevy motors in a Chevy powered thread.

That being said, there should not be anyone spouting off Chevy pride all over the place on an OLDS site either.

Please use manners, common sense & courtesy.
Enjoy.

Hey, no problem, I didn't even know it was closed.
I haven't been on here in probably a week or two because it was getting too annoying.

I only share the info because I know there's like minded people wanting to know about this stuff.
Gary and I have both done 2 swaps now (1 Chevy, 1 Olds) and we share a common interest and
others seem interested enough.

It was creating too much hysteria in the regular sections so the "NON-Olds powered" was created for this topic ,
and the drama followed into this section purposely. I tend to stay out of sections that don't interest me.

Glad to see you guys handled it appropriately. I'll continue updating the thread for the those interested.

Well really nothing to brag about....
I only got my bolt sizes figured out for the flywheel, and bellhousing.
Then I ripped out my carpet, jute padding, seats, AC evaporator/Heater box etc.
All down to the bare floorboards,

I'm just waiting for the guy with the plasma cutter to find 20 minutes to
come over and slice and dice out the trans tunnel. The T-56 6 speed is a much
larger transmission then the old 4 speeds. Once that's done I can continue but
the motor's and trans is ready to go. LSX Harness guys should be done with
my ECM and Harness mods this week.

I can't even get my B-body fuel tank in until I get a section of the trunk
cut out as well. I could do it myself with a wire wheel.....maybe I will this week.
Then I gotta do my custom tank straps out of 1" steel bar stock.

I'm stuck in limbo until I can get the plasma cutter work done.
I'll take some shots tomorrow and post them because I know visual work is
better then reading blah blah blah....

Oh yeah, picked up a few month old Lincoln electric ProMIG 180 with a full
monster tank of Argon, cart, 10lb wire, Kobalt helmet, + tons of extras for $650.

I cut my tranny tunnel out with a Sawsall and it turned out great. In fact once we welded the hump ring in I had a few who didn't know what I did think it was factory original.

It only took 20 minutes or so...

Plasma cutting basharama!!!!

This is the 1995 Impala B-body EFI ready tank budget install.
I could have opted for the easier fitting $325 Spectra EFI tank but they include
a junktastic in tank fuel pump that has to be replaced right off the bat.

Still working on my mounting straps, then I have to get all the fuel fittings and run the new fuel lines.
2011B-bodyEFItankinstallissues4800x600.jpg

Just finished cutting out the trans tunnel for the 6 speed.
Yes, all of the sound deadener was moved during the cutting to prohibit a fire risk.
I just put it all back. Plasma cutter makes both these parts of the jobs effortless.
30,000*F cuts steel like butter.

Now comes the fun part.
Sitting the engine and trans on the frame mounts and trying to get everything lined up correctly.

The dyno numbers are a bit lower than actual, since this is an inertial dyno and is not capable of loading the motor to get full boost. Still made 815hp/753tq

So .....

It turns out that the Impala SS tank filler neck I just paid $36 for isn't going to work.
I'm going to have to go dig my A-body tank out of the dumpster at work and cut the neck off.

Should have just listened to ya Gary. Figured I'd try something different for the hell of it.
Hopefully they haven't picked up the dumpster yet or I'm kinda in a jam. LOL

Another wasted weekend waiting for parts......sucks.
I'm starting to think the Spectra EFI tank wasn't such a bad idea......

Forget the spectre tank. All I hear are complaints over fuel starvation on 1/4 tank, failing pump issues, etc.
I've run my Impala tank to under 2 gallons, no problems.
I've heard another option is the CTS-V pump assembly. It's lower profile and is supposed to fit in the A body tank. Bad news is that it costs about $400, but at least it's an off the shelf item.

Finally got some time to make some progress.
Had my brother and cousin come over, bought steaks and beer.

Had to trim the firewall up another inch to clear the bellhousing. Not a big deal as I'm welding in a whole new trans tunnel after I get this all mocked up and permanent. Sat for 2 hours taking the engine in and out test fitting and getting it lined up so we could mark it's final centered location and drill the new holes for the mounts. My brother is a Union driller by trade and he was pouring oil over the drill bit helping to keep it cool while we were pounding these holes out. Old American steel is so much stronger or thicker then these new cars IMO.

Crossmembermarked.jpg

LY6in442testfit.jpg

Next up is bolting up the T-56 and modifying the trans crossmember to accommodate it.
Already bench bled the slave / master combo with a 36" remote speed bleeder setup from SNL Performance.

Harness is back from LSX Harness who modifies them and the ECM's to be retrofitted.
My new 4 core Champion HD radiator arrived too.

I was thinking the f body pan sump was longer than the CTS-V that I used. How close to the firewall did you end up with using that pan?

Guesstimations, ~1.5" firewall clearance to pass side head.

0.5-1.0" clearance from oil pan to K-member. It's a tight bitch.

Honestly not sure because I didn't take measurements before I ripped it all apart.
I already knew I was going with a custom console so I didn't bother.

Maybe 2" further back or so I'd have to guess.
Going to mock it up this week to see.

Love your car bro. I was seriously considering doing an lsx swap at some point and was weighing the options between lm7 and lq9 swap. Finally decided I would keep the Olds engine and get an overdrive trans for better driveability.

Still gonna do my lsx project but now I'm thinking of pickin up a 71-73 camaro body and droppin the 6.0 ly6 w/t56 in her along with a fast 90 intake, cam and 3.73 rear. Hopin to pull around 500 hp w/that combo but still get great daily driver manners.

I was seriously lookin at the 5.3 w/turbo option for the longest but after seeing your build up have decided the extra cost for the 6.0 engine makes up for the cost and headache of runnin the turbo. Maybe go turbo later on tho. Where did you source your 6.0 from? Also are you keepin vvt on yours and is the ls3 intake cheaper than fast 90?

Thanks....
Very easy goal. 70-73 Camaro's are the best looking 2nd gens IMHO.
Tall deck spoiler with a 2" cowl hood and the front spoiler under the nose
and it's IMO one of the greatest looking muscle cars (pony)

I have a blue n white Baldwin Motion themed 1978 Z28 with a LS1/4L60e in it as well.
Just google "Aceshigh Z28".

Maybe go turbo later on tho. Where did you source your 6.0 from? Also are you keepin vvt on yours and is the ls3 intake cheaper than fast 90?
www.car-part.com

2007+ GM trucks used the LY6 , and it's a 6.0L obviously.
You search that way. I got mine from one of the wrecking yards.

LS3 intake is waaaaaaay cheaper. You can get them new for $300 with rails and injectors off Ebay.
I got mine from SLP off Ebay from a 2010 SS Camaro they modified.

Keep us posted on your progress. Think you are gonna have a very nice monster on your hands when you get done, not to mention ultra reliable and good to drive anywhere you want; easy when you want it to be and strong when you need it to be.

Found out I had a bad slave cylinder for the clutch, so I had to buy a new one and rebleed it.
Then I discovered that my engine and trans wouldn't mate......my clutch was slightly misaligned.
Good thing I took it apart too, my 4 year old shoved a 6 in long intake bolt in there somehow.
This was last weekend......all ready to go.
2011LST56matedOct.jpg

Engine and trans are now mated and in the car finally.
Just gotta get the degree finder from a store and measure my driveline angle and adjust.

The motor mounts took some time, but finally figured them out.
Used all stainless and superglued my nylon lock nuts to a washer to put it
in my ratcheting wrenches and get them on from inside the K-member.

Chevelle mounts with 1/4" aluminum spacers so I cleared the steering linkage.
I put the order on here that I installed each bolt. Pass side I made an access hole like this one too.
2011OldsMountsdone.jpg

Engine is in the bay, straight, and perfectly balanced.
2011OldsLY6installed.jpg

T-56 Tremec 6 speed is finally in it's place as well.
This part required the use of a 2x4 to lift the trans up and relocate the trans crossmember
backward about 6 inches or so. Had to disconnect the parking brake cable from the crossmember as well.
2011OldsT-56installed2.jpg

My core support, hinges, radiator cover all just got blasted and powdercoated semi-gloss black.
Radiator is here, and my LSX Harness rework is all done, so it's just a matter of time now.

Custom gauge panel created. Just need to powdercoat it and put the carbon fiber over it.

New Vintage 1969 Series gauges for the 442.

Night time LED thru the gauge illumination......very nice.

What's the latest?
I figured with this "brutal" winter you would be almost done by now.
Btw, I was going to swap out my trans this weekend, but had to mow the lawn and get my boat dewinterized. If I remember correctly, I was shoveling snow this time last year.

So we felt that we needed to move out of that town's law reach to be safe while our Civil lawsuit is pending.

I had no time to touch my car this whole summer as a result but this winter I'm rewiring it,
and it should be ready by May 2013.

Get back to wrenching on that beast. My 5.3 is just fun to drive, that LY6 is going to be great!
I've been in FL for the last month, but was driving mine daily til then. When I get back to StL, I plan on driving it till the snow falls. If this year is anything like last, I'll be putting a lot of miles on this winter.

Yeah , I hope I didn't offend Aces a while back . I made a comment on another thread that may have pissed him off , but my intentions were not to do that . I just thought it was stupid to put an old Chevy 454 in an Olds . I'm ALL for the LS swaps though ! . It just seems to make more sense to me is all , and I don't want to start a pissing match here .

edit.... I also pondered on the thought of a modern motor in my old Olds . The newer style motors are much better in so many ways , but I don't have the welding exp to do what some of you guys are doing .

Just an fyi for you guys eyeing an LS swap. GM is coming out with their new Gen V motor with DFI, VVT, and AFM. It's suppose to be quite a beast. Anyway, over at LS1tech, there's been a guy claiiming to be a GM tech that's been releasing a lot of details on the new motor. A few weeks back he announced GM would be giving away some of the Gen V crate engines, complete with ecu, etc to members on the board there. I offered to take 2 of them
Aces, I think you can add your name to the list til new years.

In between moving last summer and no effort this winter, I haven't touched this car in damn near a YEAR!!!!

Got the dash out (Holy mother I hate this f'n dash, it's a SERIOUS ball buster)
Got the column out (looking to upgrade it to a modern style with a column wiper setup if anyone has tips!!!)
Got the harness out (Cut the rear section off so I can do that as I replace it with the new harness)
