Mopar ignition coil gets very hot
Interesting. Working on SOB recently, 71 440 Challenger, I noticed that the coil was EXCEEDINGLY hot, like way too hot to touch. Guessing 140F or more. Seems wrong to me. What say ye?
Stock 1971 electronic distributor, box on firewall, resistor on firewall. Coil is new and presumably came with the now unused LameThrower [sic] distributor.
Also, why would it have THREE wires on the coil (-) before we even put the tach wire on?

There are major differences between a Mopar setup and stock/aftermarket Gm systems. Mopar basically uses 3 different ignition control boxes, 1 being strictly for racing. On all 3 the coil is triggered through the box and not the distributor. My guess would be a faulty box or ballast resistor and/or power wired wrong. They are an easy system to setup, but more difficult to trouble shoot.
