convert 2 spd wiper to 3 spd on 66 cutlass

Hi, all. In have a 66 Cutlass with a 2 speed wiper, and the washer doesn't work. What all does a person need to to, to switch this to a 3 speed wiper? I believe that I have a 3 speed, out of a 67, and have the switch also. Has anyone done this? Thanks.

Sorry, but no you don't (unless you are counting "off" as one of the three speeds). Olds only offered single speed and two speed wipers in these cars. You need to figure out what you have. The wipers interchange between 66 and 67, so long as the switch matches the wiper (single speed vs. two speed).

Thanks, Joe. I checked yesterday, and both switches are 2 speed. The rear connections are different, but both have 3 pegs coming out the rear, so they should interchange, correct? I believe that I have a round wiper motor/setup from a 67, and my 66 has the small square type. Is there any advantage in the round, and would it bolt right in? I haven't really looked at it, since I am still fighting the fuel gauge problem.

If they are both 66-67, they should interchange. Keep in mind that the wiring for these wipers is not obvious. GM used a shunt winding for the low speed. Basically the high speed winding is grounded in the switch to get high speed. Low speed grounds BOTH the high speed winding and the reverse-wound shunt winding to get low speed. Off grounds the park circuit only. Check the contacts on the switch. In the OFF postion, one of the terminals should be grounded to the switch case. In the LOW position, the other two terminals should both be grounded. In the HIGH position, only one of these two should be grounded.
