1969 442 W32 Converible and 1969 Cutlass Supreme Convertible Factory 4 Speed
#81
I think that GAOldsman said there were 1161 cutlass S convertibles with 4 speeds...
I loved driving mine even with a less than beasty 350 2B it would cruise literally all day at 70 MPH I used to go from Stony Brook Long Island To the swap meet at carlisle including a zombie ridden stretch of route 380 LOL...
I really do love the look of your w-32 what color is the "S"
as I said what is weird about mine is the 3.08 posi? the 4 speed is also a puzzler? I mean I could see if it was a 3 speed with the 350-2B I mean heck a 3 speed manual was standard for the 442 as well, so the guy ordered a 4 speed, ordered a Posi, and then went for the "cheap Chips" on the motor go figure
BTW you being the original owner of the w-32is very cool!!!

I will have the documentation scanned and post. It is multiple pages with a lot of information. I will also look for and post the accompanying letter from GM so there is a reference to the contact department.

I am not much help. I thought the S on the side of my Cutlass meant Supreme. I know the cars I own and love and I know their history. That is about all.

The Cutlass colour is a cherry burgandy with black interior.

To clarify my post the VIN beginning with 34467 stands for any 1968 - 1971 442 Convertible and 442 W30 Convertible. Eddie could you post your first six digits of your VIN to clarify. 3667 = ??? 33667 = Cutlass V8 Convertible
3 = Oldsmobile Division
36 = Cutlass V8
67= Convertible
3 = Oldsmobile Division
36 = Cutlass V8
67= Convertible

Also, Cutlass S does not mean Cutlass Supreme. Heirarchy is as follows:
F85
Cutlass
Cutlass S
4-4-2
Cutlass Supreme
If I'm wrong about something, the 4-4-2 is above the CS but I doubt it.

Yes, there was a Cutlass - check out this item from the WildAboutCars.com site:
http://wildaboutcarsonline.com/membe..._SPECS_Oct.pdf
Like any other car brand, there were option and styling differences between the trim levels. The Cutlass had a higher level of standard equipment than the F85, and it had a lower level of standard equipment than the Cutlass S.
Technically, I should have listed Vista Cruiser too.

Not what I said, I stated there were 1,161 1969 442 Converts (Cutlass S) with the 4-speed produced. I also stated I didn't have the breakdown for the "standard" Cutlass S Convertibles in 1969.
#92
Because the 1969 442 Convertible is based on the Cutlass S convertible platform since there were no Supreme Converts or plain Cutlass Converts produced in '69.
#94
Sure, but it would be just that - Sans the appearance, handling and performance package, not to mention a few digits on the VIN and Cowl tag but none the less, it is/was the Cutlass S platform. I know you know and I know I know, but some or a lot of people do not realize there IS a difference between Cutlass S and Cutlass Supreme.

will do

I have heard that the trim tag may have had the 33667 but it is the vin that would have had the 34467 on the 442
Or is this a case of I know that you know that I don't know

got that

My apologies diego...you've shown me there WAS a Cutlass...the Cutlass and Cutlass Supreme were two trim levels of 4 dr cars, excluding the Vista. Who knew !
Neither did I know the F85 trim was only avail on coupes,. if I'm reading that right.

Ordinarily I'd agree with that, but I have a bulletin dated earlier that shows the W-32 package having W-42 standard, which was later amended in this bulletin.

Diego, W-42 is for the paint panels on the hood, mmurphy77 is referring that a/c was not available w/the W32 per the the above Olds docs. Am I missing something?

I'm not disputing that AC wasn't available. I'm just saying that even though this is factory documentation, it is not always the last word. What if the previous memo was posted? It would have shown the W-42 stripes to be standard with the W-32 package and, as it turned out, that wasn't the case. I know this because I have copies of both memos.

so Diego....back to the plain Cutlass matter...since there were no four door F85s and no two door Cutlass models, could it be that both were on the same status rung on the A body platform, with the only differentiation between models being the # of doors ?
How do you know the Cutlass is a higher level model ? What trim upgrades ?

The number of F85 and Cutlass models has changed over the years. I suspect previous sales performance is what determined what bodystyle was available. Remember, in the early days, there even was an F85 convertible:

Basically the memo I posted just reiterates what you said before, and it was the fact that it didn't come from the factory with A/C and that the dealer installed it. No worries though because it was dealer installed and it is such a rare and pretty bird Hopefully you still have the documentation that supports the fact that the dealer did install the A/C. And likewise you aren't looking to sell it so that really doesn't matter either, but it is a good idea to create a folder or binder to keep everything pertaining to the car in. You must be really proud to be the owner of this fine machine

Thanks. I am home now so I will take photograghs of the W32 and Cutlass this weekend and post next week. Also, I will have the document from GM scanned but I am not sure how to post so I may need an email to forward it and perhaps that person knows how to post it.

I agree. My problem was driving the W32 on a day that was too hot to put the top down along with being stuck in traffic. I was not thinking of resale then or now. I have had some pretty nice performance cars and even my wife says the nicest handling car is the W32. It saved my life once by it's unbeleviable quick response in a crisis situation. Never had a car handle like that before or since. Like a panther.
