Just saying hi. My new love is a 64 Starfire, and although it is excellent shape I was looking for an Olds forum to learn from.
My first car was a 66 Buick and for a while in the 90s I was in the Buick club with a really nice 65 Riviera. I've never actually had an Oldsmobile until now. I started out just looking for an early Skylark or Cutlass, but then saw this Starfire and could not resist. (I'm a huge fan of the fern green.) I was not looking for a restoration project this time out, just a really nice original to heap some attention on.
Love this car. Great lines and comfort. I like having the hot 394 under the hood, last of its kind. Happy to be an Oldsmobile man now.

I am just using the pictures that I had from the seller. They are better than I take anyway. This car came out of a Florida collection. I sort of brought it "home" because I'm near Lansing, but the code says it was built in South gate CA, so I guess not.

Because of my Buick roots, I'm a huge nailhead fan. This time I'm switching sides. The rocket V8 is legendary, really looking forward to driving this car around.

As long as I'm posting, here is the stable mate to the Starfire. 52 Studebaker hardtop, which they called "starliner", so I like the way the names work together. This one wasn't bought done, it actually took me 13 years of fiddling around while the kids were growing up.
Runs 12.70s with a 454 Chevy under the hood. Got my hot rod and got my cruiser, so a pretty happy guy.
I love those Starfires! There's also one in my neck of the woods wearing the same fern green paint but is a convertible. Hope to see it at Gilmores in August!
Welcome, nice car, you should plan to attend the Homecoming in June (fathers day weekend)in Lansing. Usually have around 450 cars there.
Looking forward to seeing this Starfire in person.

1961 was the re-introductory year for the Starfire. It came only in a convertible model that year. Given that fact, unless you plan on removing the top it would be a little hard to convert your 61 to a Starfire.
Very nice. Do not see many '64 Starfires out this way. It looks in great condition. I like the side turning lamps, wish they would bring those back on the new cars as they were very effective. The fender mounted rear view mirror must take some getting used to.

Yeah, thanks, Ive been doing quite a bit of research and my plans are to make a mild custom 1 of none 61 Starfire bubbletop. Maybe with a surprise under hood too.......
61bat I know what you mean about not encountering these. I'm 50 and been a huge car nut all my life. But a starfire to me meant a 62, with all the brushed aluminum side trim.
Then I was just dreaming on ebay, knew that 1st gen Rivieras were priced a bit out my league now, and this 64 Starfire came up. Wow. The right car at the right time for me.

It's close to useless. But visibility is SO much better in these old cars than any of the crap they make today. I don't mind turning my head to look out these windows.

Your car is a great find and I'm glad it goes to someone who appreciates it for its originality.
I don't feel too bad "customizing" mine what I'm replacing for the most part isn't original anyway or needs refurbishing.

I've seen pictures of some 88's from that era that have the mirror in a more conventional location on the door. I can't imagine the factory using both locations so I guess some owners relocated them to a more logical spot.

I beg to differ. I like that ornamentation on the left fender. Causes me to look down that long fender peak. Of course life in a convertible is a little different from the hardtops. No pesky blind spots to contend with....
