Hello with a 68 442

Hello this is my first time visiting this site. I purchased a 68 442 off Ebay back in March. I have been watching them for the past few years and was looking for the right one. When the car showed up it wasn't quite what I expected but the interior was real nice. Now with my new I have worked out deals with people to work on the body. It was lowered a couple inches when it got here but I have new rear springs to bring it to proper height and still need the fronts. I am not that knowledgeable with working on these Muscle cars and doing it right so I look forward to reading others posts and getting feed back if I have questions.

Motor is a 455, with a 4-speed manual. I do have another modified motor for temporary to put in until I know what my long term plan is. It's not and Olds but is at least a GM. Rearend is a 12 bolt posi with what I was told 3.73 gears.

Thank you.

Welcome to the site. Hope you find all the answers to your questions. You might consider purchasing a factory service manual like the one in the link below, it is in rough condition though. If you don't have one, try to buy an original and not a reproduction. A guy can buy the digital versions as well if you like that.

Keep in mind putting that "other" motor in your car will have a cost over and beyond what you might think.

I'm just saying do your home work to the last detail. You might just want to keep it Olds powered. A lot of people work real hard just to get where you are at. Long before changing brands.

Most of us are about originality here but it's your car and you'll be driving it. Enjoy it, research it and be prepared to answer plenty of questions at the next cruise in. Happy New Year and welcome to Olds ownership!

The digital versions are simply scans of a paper original and have all the problems of the repro printed copies. There were never electronic originals back in the day. I ONLY recommend an original paper copy.

I'll also point out that unlike 99% of the 1968 442s out there today, this car actually had W36 stripes from the factory, as evidenced by the location of the fender emblems.

Welcome to the site, looks to be a good solid start to a very nice car. I agree, to go to a non Olds engine requires some additional mods, not sure if that bell housing is a direct bolt on for Chevy if thats the direction your going.

Thanks everyone. I plan on beefing up the Olds motor down the road, but I have a motor that had built a while back (for a different project) and it has never been fired up so figure this will be a good way to finally hear it. Especially right now while the hood and front fenders are off.
