Yes that is the number of the quadrajet on there. Engine is also original as the stamping is also in the vin.

Spent yesterday and today fiddling with the 442. We pulled the engine and trans. Turns out both engine mounts were completely apart. We had some difficulty pulling the Muncie. Someone has been into this before as there were only 2 bolts holding the pressure plate on to the flywheel. I started patching the passenger side front floor. As usual one pinholes turns to 2 then 3 then 4 and it continues. I was able to put a patch there. Still more to do. Luckily the doors are very solid. We pulled the fenders and core support off the parts car. I told my brother its time to start spending some cash on parts needed!

No pictures today but progress is taking place. The new trunk floor (3 piece) is about ready to be welded in place. My brother bought a cheapo one for a chevelle and it needed trimming at the ends for fit and proper contour. It is also a little short front and back to take care of rot in places so some small pieces will need to be patched in. He also found a good deal on a set of repop quarters. The rear glass is nearing install. The floors have been saved. There were a few holes in the rear pans that just needed some fill. The front floors had about equal patchwork on each side.

The trunk is finally done. The floors are patched but just need some cleaning and a little paint. Am hoping the rear glass goes in next week.

Geez Joe I am ashamed at how long my projects taking, nice you found aqll the docs and nice work so far.. subscribed. Hoping to get back on my project after the honey do list and now I have a little more room in my tiny shop lol.
I assume your doing lacquer again?? I got to get my but moving. I agree with what was said that gearing might be steep for a 455, might be great with the 350 though if its built up. but that is going to make the red line come up real quick.

Ya Radiant Green lacquer, its way easier not to change color. As for the gear it was not first choice but its what was ended up with. My 67 442 vert has a 466 gear with a 425 and its ok. With 30 inch slicks I was crossing the line under 6000RPM. On the street you wont be getting up there but you will have to stay off the freeways.... Have to see how it goes. Glad you subscribed here!

Rear glass went in nicely with 5/16 butyl tape. We pulled the front glass and it will most likely be replaced due to some scratches and a BB hit near driver's vision out area. There is not a whole lot of patching needed here but there is some. Started to cut off Rt side quarter and have to decide where the repop one will be seamed in.

Just a couple of pictures taken on the cell... Too bad the entire lip on the outer rear wheel housing is gone. I dont really feel like spending the 100 plus dollars for the repop so I think I can just make the part I need then weld it to the quarter during install. Lots of trimming and fitting left to do.

Well this is the part I would need as it has the molded lip that gets tacked to the quarter lip. I thought i could cut a strip of metal and form it to the correct shape and weld it where it is missing.

Might be worth your while just to buy a new outer if it'll take that much time to fabricate replacement metal? I haven't any idea who makes the best repop outer liners though. If you can get it for 100.00 or less I think it will save you time and frustration in the long run. JMO FWIW. Good luck with your decision.

Had some time to get a bit done on the project. The new windshield arrived but the dash needs another quick sand and painting before we can get the glass in. The inner rear fender outer well arrived and we got that in as well as the start of the quarter install. So far things are fitting nicely. We pulled the rear also and it appears to be a 323 posi not the desireable 342 as advertised. There are no stampings on the rear that I can see so to be sure, someday, I will pull the rear cover to be sure of what it is. The original boxed rear lower control arms have the typical northeast rot...

3.23:1 is standard 350 4-speed rear gear ratio. That car somewhat reminds me of mine.....mine is Sequoia Green/ Saddle, but a '72 350 4bbl, 4-speed, hardtop. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE go with the Radiant Green!!! Check out James Kryta's car and that will give you a pretty good idea of why I am so adamant about the request. IMO, one of the BEST colors on a 442.....I really like that color with white interior, too. I'm gonna follow this build; I deviated from entirely stock (in many areas) on my build and couldn't be happier with the outcome. I have an original set of SSll wheels with original Argent Gray paint and F70/L60 Goodyear RWL if you are interested. Again, check Kryta's car as he has the same wheel (different size tires) combo. on his Radiant Green '72.

I like the radiant green and the car will most likely be that. I will be doing the painting so that gives me an edge. Ya I have seen a radiant green W car on this site, its great. As for wheels and tires, dont know yet. The car belongs to my brother and he is the one spending the cash. Thanks for the suggestions!

Just a quick update, front glass went in with 3/8 butyl tape. The new repop windshield seemed thinner than the original and pretty light weight. The rt quarter is just about finished but no filler has been added yet. Soon we will be cutting the drivers quarter which is rotted, battered and heavy with bondo. My brother needs to get in gear with the 455 build!

Could not get pictures but the driver's side quarter is on with just a little more welding to do. I had to replace the inner well as done on the passenger side and rebuild the trunk drop-off area. The front glass is in and I had to et some new quarter window chrome pieces as the ones there were rusted and pitted. New weather strips will be needed there as well. Once the quarters are finished the gas tank will go in and the rear with new springs and shocks and control arms. Still no movement with the engine build!

Still waiting on the rear axle. Those bushings are not so hard to press out but they're a real pain to get back in, especially the one on the right side. Stupid design on the ears or the pumpkin IMO. Did you find the stamping on the axle to confirm the gearing, or are you going to just pull the gears and look at the numbers? (that's the guaranteed way to know). You putting the stock diff cover back on? I put the W27 on mine even though it's not correct. It holds about a pint more gear oil and give better cooling with those fins.

Did not pull cover yet, no stamp can be found. i am guessing its the 323 as thats about what I count when I spin and count turns. We are swapping that 430 Buick rear into it and the bushings look to be fine on it, yep lots of stuff yet to be done. I am hoping he drops the 455 off soon at the machine shop! Got to start pushing him I guess.

I like the houses from that period - they're less detailed than the earlier Victorians (though I like them, too), and are generally extremely well built, with big rooms and good ventilation, heating, cooling, and closets, and you usually get at least a gas fireplace.
