My 64 J88

So here are some pictures and progress, if any that I am making on the car,

and the stuff I am into now, pulled pretty much all the dash and have gone through and sand blasted and painted the gauge cluster, and everything involved with the heater core and vent box, all this because I was chasing a bad resistance wire for the Delcotron. Now the car actually charges its own battery! I am finishing up with the paint tomorrow and hope to get it back together soon. I have also had a few little surprises pop up

and my power steering hoses came apart

So I have solutions for most issues but i still need 1/4 panels lol. I figure I would update this post as I go with the old girl. I have a huge transmission leak and transmission cooler leak, I was thinking of just buying a $800 Jegs TH350 and an external cooler and be done with the junkway 2.

I know a guy up here in Ontario who has both sides in NOS quarter panels for sale, if you are interested in them I could find out how much.I think they will be expensive.
I bought the trunk drops and half way up the quarter and part of the trunk floor for both sides of one of my 63 98s and chopped them up to suit what I needed rather than replacing the quarter panel and I have NOS quarters for this convertible.

I am debating between rebuilding the 330 or getting a 455. I am not too aware about what is out there for either. What are people's opinions?

Small progress, the heater core and vent controls work great, just need some hose for the vents and all will be good, the pics of the paint on the firewall do not do it justice the pics make it look a lot worse than it is. The wires under the dash are still getting cleaned up.

I started on the front suspension doing the ball joints, then realized i needed everything, so i got new springs, tie rods, a arm bushings, the shocks i have only have a few miles on them so they can stay. I have three questions

1. Are the inner tie rods the same as the tie rod ends? I cant seem to find anything listed for inner tie rod or pitman rod.

2. Do 1964 cutlass spindles fit on the jetstar88? Im asking because i need to redo all the brakes and would like to install disc brakes if i can.

3. Does anyone know where i can get the part that the battery tray sits on or if its the same as an impala?

Thanks

1. Inner tie rod ends are not the same as outer . They do turn up on E-Bay.
When shopping for steering linkage , be aware that there were two types used in production . Thompson and Saginaw . To determine which type you have measure the smallest part of the taper on the stud at the pitman arm end of the center link . Thompson will measure .556 in and Saginaw will measure .587 in.
2. 1964 Jetstar 88 spindles are all by themselves. Nothing else fits
The good news is that there is a company called Scarebird that makes disc brake setups .
https://scarebird.com/index.php?rout...tegory&path=62
3. The battery tray is not the same as an Impala. It is common only to 63 and 64 full size Oldsmobiles. A sheetmetal shop that does heating and A/C might be able to bend one up for you.

Thank your for the scarebird site. I since everything in my car needs to be replaced i was thinking of using this with 64 cutlass spindles
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/su...ss?prefilter=1

The issue i learned from scarebird is they say for 15 in wheels and my rims are 14 in, so i will need to contact them

I don't think the Cutlass spindles will work on your Jetstar.

With the brackets from the scarebird the calipers and stuff in the summit set should work right?

I really doubt it. Best to speak with Scarebird first.

Scarebird's kit is for 61 to 64 and 66-70 full size cars, I think the suspension on your car is a one-year-only hybrid. There are other experts on here who know all the details, but I would be very careful buying any kit unless you are sure it will fit. You may be better off just rebuilding the stock brakes.
