Hi, trying to remove my parking brake assembly temporarily while i fit in a kick panel with speaker. i've got one bolt that attaches the assembly to the underside of the dash off but i see that there are two "pins" or bolts connecting the assembly to the firewall. the ends of these large bolts are just smooth perfectly round caps, i can't see how they unbolt or are otherwise removed. any help would be appreciated. my shop manual has one picture of the assembly but doesn't speak to its removal.

Nuts on the fwd side of the firewall?

There are three fasteners on the parking brake bracket. The one bolt to the underside of the dash and the two studs that penetrate the firewall. Go under the hood and remove the two nuts that are below and outboard of the brake booster. You may have to remove the inner fender to get to them. Be sure to disconnect the cable before removing these fasteners.

I remember the first time I did this, several decades ago.
I undid the screw under the dashboard.
Then I wiggled, then I pulled, then I pushed.
Then I got under the dash and looked all around.
Then I opened the hood and looked and looked.
Then I got under the car.
Then I looked under the hood again.
Finally I found those damned nuts.
Then I cursed the designers.
Then I undid the nuts.

Fortunately, that car was in serious need of a set of brake cables, so there wasn't much tension on the spring, but it still surprised me.

The nuts are generally covered in sealer goo and thus do not look like nuts
you may be able to remove them via u-joint sockets and extensions.
Getting them BACK ON however is another matter.

guys, he just needs the brake pedal mech out of the way for a minute for speaker work, does not need to remove the cable from the mechaninsm. Just push it aside. or, so I gather...
