door panel

I have a 72 cutlass I am in process of attaching the edges of my door panel back to the cardboard using 3m weatherproof cement, which is some pretty nasty stuff, may just use good old elders white glue, used it on small portion seems to work ok anyway question is how is the panel attached to the cardboard from the factory? Glue?

On my 68 it had some kind of a hole punch that had a x in it that punched the hole and folded the points over acting like a staple. I used 1/8" counter sunk pop rivits with back up washers on the cardboard side. Worked good.

When I went to glue my edges back around the backing it would not stay glued because the cardboard layer would delaminate and the vinyl would not stay down. I ended up using that aluminum duct tape. I wrapped the vinyl around the edge and taped it down. I then carefully cut out the slots where the clips slide in. I could locate the indentations of the slots through the metal foil tape. Hope this helps.

Were the panels glued from the factory?
