Help. shift knob removal

Help. shift **** removal

Hi there, Looking to remove the factory walnut shift **** on a 1969 442. Trying to remove the whole center console to get to the neutral safety/reverse light switch,and cant slide the shift plate over the **** obviously. It is removable right? haha Any tips/ suggestions are much appreciated!Thank you.
