Cheap window crank repo's

Since I finished my interior last summer, I had been having trouble with the driver window crank. The new repo's never did fit snug, and I had to push in on it while cranking. It felt like the splines or grooves were starting to strip. One day it would not engage at all. Took the crank off and noticed that the grooves on the crank handle do not come all the way to the edge of the hole, unlike the originals that do. The problem? MADE IN CHINA. Just a heads up if anyone is replacing their crank or door handle levers. I put the old one back on and it works great, and fits snug like it should. I'll just paint the ****. Also, the pattern on the chrome is slightly different from OEM. Can't remember the vendor, only that it was E-bay. Inquire before you buy!

X2. All the repop window cranks are junk in my opinion. The offset is wrong also. That is part of why the NOS ones go for insane money on eBay. I have 4 nice original chrome handles and 3 nice clear *****. My problem is that the clear ***** are on crappy handles. I am going to drill them and rivet them to the good handles.

I also had bought a set of door handles off Ebay. They worked like crap. Would not allow me to roll up or down. Like they were stripped. So I ordered a set from Fusicks. Problem solved.

I had same stripping problem. As you noted, the splines do not go as deep, or not all the way to the top, or both, and they strip. I bought better ones from Legendary, but it is good to hear that Fusick also has good ones.

There are 2 imported cranks around. There are the POS ones, then there was a newer better one made. That one usually costs twice as much, maybe 15. ea, but they are a lot better. There is still a lot of the crappy ones around. You get what you pay for.

Where are the "good" ones available?

The only place I know for sure that has them is AMES. They show 2, F184K (5.00) + F184KD (15.00). It says the KD's are a suberb repro, handle has the correct shape, offset, spline size + **** shape. I haven't actually bought any, because I don't need any. But I'm aware of the problems w/ the POS ones! Also...the clips that come with the POS ones suck. Try to use original clips.
