Refinishing 64-66 Starfire Console Aluminum
Olds kinda blew it when they built the console for the Starfires from 64-66. The aluminum trim on top was soft and constantly getting dinged with seatbelts being taken off. Mine's been heavily dinged since I bought it 17 years ago, but the chrome is still good.
Here's the discovery: the aluminum is just a well adhered sticker from the factory. It peels off. I always thought it was brushed steel.
So I got some "Avery Supreme Wrapping Film" in Brushed Aluminum and am about to replace the stickers so the dings disappear. It's just adhesive backed vinyl film, but I think the look is very close to factory.
Go get a sample and/or a few yards from www.metrorestyling.com to see if you want to do this your self. It's just cut and stick from there...
