It's a lot easier than I thought. Check the 442.com web site they have step by step instructions.
Basically you need to carefully take apart the outer return spring. You need to remember how many turns the spring was wound. pull out the drum pin and you can remove the belt webbing. Snake Oyl products has OEM webbing. Look at the webbing pattern there is more than one style 3,5 or 7 "panel". Re-assembly is done carefully to get the spring in the right way and how many winds. The key is patience, careful inspection of the right direction the parts are assembled and take pictures before dis-assembly. Do one at a time.

The belt webbing has a strip pattern running the length of webbing. It "stitched" in an off setting pattern. Each strip is a panel. If you want to do an OEM restoration you need to order the correct # of panel webbing.
