I'm replacing the carpet on my 56 Super 88. The existing carpet is not original, and I'm trying to figure out what color it should be. The interior is all various shades of gray, (Trim #381- plain gray pattern/gray pattern cloth) so it would make sense that the carpet would be gray. But on the net I see lots of '50's cars with black carpet. Was black the common carpet color "back in the day"?

Frank,(automotiveinteriors.com) has the molded Carpet sets for '56 Olds and offer it in 2 shades of gray.Look at it online and I believe either would look better than black with all the other interior being gray. Type in your state and they will give you a quote including shipping."Good Luck!" Larry
