Help with body tag decoding

I was wondering if someone could help me decode my body tag for colors so I can start on a restoration. The tag reads: ST7034257LAN222065 BDY, TR 983, 09B, 25, C PNT. I would appreciate any help with this or some direction.

Blue

blue paint, blue ragtop, blue seats and blue carpet. If you've got a column shift car, seats were bench.

Not necessarily. The console and floor shift were another option on top of the bucket seats. If you ordered buckets and an automatic but didn't get the console, you got buckets and a column shifter.

Joe - Have you seen such a thing in a 1970 Cutlass ? I thought about saying some older Cutlasses were buckets/column cars, but I decided that combo died out long before 1970.

A guy near me has that in a 65 Skylark...never saw it in a 68 and up GM intermediate.

Check the dealer ordering sheets. The buckets and console were different options and you could absolutely order the buckets with a column shift. Admittedly very few were ordered that way, but it was possible. As an example, the base 442 for 1968 came with bucket seats, three speed manual trans with floor shift, and no console. If you ordered the automatic, you got a column shift with the buckets. You needed to also order the console to get the floor shift automatic.

Is there anything in the number that would tell me if the car had cloth or vinyl seats?

983 is blue cloth and vinyl bench seat with center armrest. If you need to match it, send the 983 trim code to www.smsautofabrics.com and they will send you a sample swatch of the closest thing they have to it. My money says it will be the exact material you need. Won't be cheap, but it will be right.

The rest:

ST7034257LAN222065 BDY:

70= 1970, 3= Oldsmobile, 42= Cutlass Supreme (SX was a Supreme subseries), 57= notchback hardtop coupe, LAN= Lansing Michigan Fisher Body plant, 222065= Fisher job number

TR 983 as above

09B= Fisher body assembly date, 2nd week (B) September 1970 (9th month)

25= Astro Blue paint

C= blue vinyl roof cover
