painting a console

what do I use to paint a console that isn't the right color?

interior dye in a spray can works well. You can get it at any auto parts store but SEM makes the best available.

Clean clean clean it and then clean it some more adhesion promoter and then SEM paint.
I use Dawn dish soap first then POR15 marine clean then SEM soap let it dry and then wax and grease remover then adhesion promoter then SEM paint. It might be overkill but I has worked great for me.
