Hi Guys,

The seat belts in my beater are in good shape, but the webbing, belting, or whatever you want to call the belt material is a bit stiff and has some discolorations (they're black in color). The buckles are in nice shape, so they don't need any attention, but I'm wondering what's the best way to clean the webbing and make it soft again. Anybody done this successfully? If so, let me know the trick.

I tied mine in a square frame using zip ties so they were tight. took it to the carwash and let em have it. Soaped then rinsed, they turned out nice.

Just blast it with a strong detergent and water (Fantastik, Formula 409, Oil Eater, laundry detergent, dish detergent). I like the idea of the rack, but basically, put 'em in a bucket of soapy water, let 'em soak, scrub 'em a bit with a brush, then blast 'em with the hose until they stop foaming. Dry 'em in the sun, and move the buckles around along the belts as they dry to avoid leaving marks.

I put mine in a wash basin with Tide and rinsed it, after a few times the water was clear and then prep'ed them for painting with SEM Landau Black.

I ran them through the dishwasher. I removed the buckles and wove the webbing through the pins in the rack. I was shocked at the amount of dirt that came out of them.
One word of warning... Do it on a day when your wife isn't home.

I've ran several sets of seat belts through the washing machine. Cold water & low water setting with some detergent. So far no damage to the washer or belts. They come out much nicer & softer, then let them air dry.

You can also give Python Restorations in Texas a call. The guys name is Stewart. Restored all my buckles (5 sets), rewebbed the fronts and date coded all the belts for $350.00. Very pleased with his work.
