1973 Omega, replacing heater control *****

The other day the **** to slide the heater control up and down to turn it on and off broke off, a clean break at least. Right now ive been sticking a flat head in to move it up and down which is better than nothing but awkward.

My car doesnt have AC and I never use the hot/cold slider so I was hoping to be able to take that **** off and put it on the on and off side and then repair the other one and use it on the one I dont touch so I dont have to worry about breaking it as I assume sourcing a new one would be difficult

I checked the 73 chassis service manual and there are no specific instruction for removing the *****, only the control assembly... You may have to remove the entire control to fix your problem... Below are the instructions for removal and installation of the control...

BTW, the chassis manual wouldnt go into the best way on how to remove the trim around the windows and the tailgiht surrounds? I have the special trim popper tool I just want to get as much info before I try it as I imagine trying to replace it would be very hard.

The Fisher Body Service Manual would most likely show that info, not the chassis manual... It will show illustrations of mldg locations and various retainer designs used...
