seat belt question

seat belt question

how do I get the buckle off from my 66 cutlass seatbelt? I want to clean them up and dye them black,but ic cant figure out the buckle removal

depending on what type they are - but they all pry apart. Not easy to do but can be done. Pry the black or brushed stainless (deluxe style) fro the shinny stainless on the bottom. Its a bit scary but carefully done its not hard.

had to pry from the rear of the buckle, brushed top part,and then slide the top forward to separate. thank you

correct, your post made me do mine today. Pry from the back, not real easy but got em done. Forgot to take a before but these are after pics for the new Cutlass

I did this recently also. Not to clean them but I switched from the painted buckles to the brushed. I had a bunch of random seat belts in various colors and years with the brushed buckles and I had a really nice black set with the painted buckles. Pry the top off from the back, the belt stays attached to the lower part of the buckle and you just swap the top and the button. Nice quick little upgrade.
