1977 Cutlass Experts Needed

Does anyone know how to remove the A/C woodgrain insert on the passenger side dashboard? I thought it wold be clipped on but I pryed one side and it had a screw that goes in to the dash. I can't figure out how to get to the screw to remove it. I think they're may be about 3-4 screws holding the piece in. I want to remove it so I can clean and repaint the chrome edge.

Thanks

Could you provide a picture? Maybe you need to remove the glove box to access the screws that secure the woodgrain insert?

Do you mean the woodgrain decoration at middle-console around a/c-controls?

If so, mine was installed with some thick glue to the actual panel. Pryed it off little by little by great care. I took it off to straighten it, and it was also snooping on one corner. Installed back with quality 2-sided tape.

Finally, I got it. It is a clip that is threaded just like a screw. Whoever had the car before me put some electrical tape around the clip so it can stay in place to the dash. It does pop off with some careful force. I have to pry by hand because any tool will cause it to crack. So it took me a while to get it off.

Glad to hear you got it off safely. I'm always extra cautious when disassembling parts on my Olds because to break, bend or deform something is sacrilege.

Good to hear you got it worked out, hopefully it will go back together fine without rattling. I guess you could always put a little dab of silicone on that screw and push it back in place.

I recently removed mine and one of the plastic screw holders did break. I glued it back on with some carpet fibers mixed in the glue and it held up really well. I removed mine to put a clock in the car
