Strato bucket seats- recline?

Hi guys (and gals),

My '71 Cutlass has the stock Strato bucket seats, with a motorized drivers seat.
I have seen mention of an optional reclining version of these seats?

Is it possible to retro fit the reclining function to seats that are not originally including this option?

Many thanks in advance!

Short answer no. Long answer yes. Marxjunk can probably help on this subject.

Hmm. Not sure if that sounds promising or not?

Because we told you so. Yes, it was passenger side only. More to the point, this was an EXTREMELY rare option. You think standard A-body buckets are expensive? Expect to pay STOOPID money if you ever find one of these seats for sale.

By the way, here's your "proof". RPO A70, which you'll note is for RH seat only.

Let me ask this
The 67 Toro parts car had a bench seat with reclining RH side.
It was stuck and did not release, but the parts were there.
Could this be adapted to a strato bucket?
What value would one place on such a Tor bench seat?

Chris,

Is this the Strato Bench seat that used the bucket seatbacks with a bench bottom and a separate armrest? If so, the seatbacks should be the same as those on A-body buckets.

The strato bench seat uses the same hinge on the outboard side of the seat as a bucket seat( I think) but the inboard side with arm rest is totally different. That is what I was referring to about the long story part. I'm sure if you had some skills you could cut, splice, weld & modify it to work but I don't think it would be easy.

Yeah, that thing. Tilts fwd to allow access to rear seat of Toronado.

I expected to have to strip a bucket seat bare and weld and whatnot. Just wondering what value a bench seat with a Last Time Seen Never option might have.

Anyone got any number at all? Order of magnitude number?

I'd think a fair bench seat might fetch $100 so a Power track w/ RH recliner $500 ???

Chris,
Kind of a limited market but probably pretty close price wise. Might be worth more to part it out. If all parts are nice maybe look into that? Power seat parts go for decent money, the little transmissions, motors, belts, covers, side pieces, tracks, etc... bucket seat head rests, seat backs, I "think" you might be able to use some of the recline components on a regular bucket seat?

I've got several Toro both 66 and 67 with the option. The cylinder that operates the recliner is usually seized is the crummy part. If I remember its a sealed unit so finding or adapting another unit would be difficult and the seat needs to be taken apart. Not a problem if the seats need redone but pretty hard to not jack up the material if you are trying to reuse it after getting the option to work.
