Vinyl vs carpet on floor panels in Vista Cruiser
I have a 71 Vista Cruiser, the floor panels and tailgate cover have vinyl on them which is shot. I am really thinking about putting carpet instead of the vinyl. How is the carpet bound? And is it glued to the panels or just screwed?

You have vinyl on the floor of your entire cruiser??
On my 72, the carpet is just fastened down with screws that are part of other components like the seat tracks and belt brackets stuff like that. Now, I don't know if that was factory, but it does appear to be original carpet.

I've had two 1970 Vista Cruisers and both had flat pieces of carpet in the rear (load floor and tailgate) with bound edges, glued and screwed in place. The passenger compartment carpet was done just like the rest of the Cutlasses--it was press molded and laid in place over the padding.

Oh, I see. The vinyl on the rear panels is glued to the sheet metal. I recently redid the vinyl in mine because the previous owner covered the whole darn thing with vinyl tape for some reason. The carpet in the back floor panels is just glued and screwed as well.
Good luck with the project. I'm not sure I'd carpet the side rear panels, if that's what your thinking about. Lol. Might look weird.

Maybe these pics will help. The carpet on the panel closest to the tailgate was replaced hastily by me because I'll never find carpet close to the rest of the car. On the 1/3 seat pic, you can see how the carpet is just kinds of glued and screwed.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for the pics. I just think it will look a lot better with carpet. The vinyl I think I am not going to be able to find. No just the floor hatches only. I'll keep the vinyl on the side panels. I am trying to keep it as original as possible with a few minor upgrades.
