'68 Air Cleaner Ink Stamp

'68 Air Cleaner Ink Stamp
I want to restore my air cleaner but cannot find anyone who makes the ink stamp. Does anyone know if the ink stamp in the picture is reproduced for a 68 442 air cleaner? Sorry for the blurry picture.

That was probably silkscreened.
Honestly, I don't know of any way to replace that perfectly. You'd think that these days with CNC machinery, you could have it drawn, then a stencil cut out.
Or...
Like this lying sack of feces with the Cutass [Not 442] air cleaner...
just slap on any old sticker that some vendor offers, with oh say the 1971 "NJ" code and part number... Who's going to know anyhow, right?

As far as the stamping goes, it would be easy to reproduce with the proper equipment.
You'd need to photograph a complete example, use software to flatten the inevitable curve on the image (otherwise, you'd have to cut and flatten the aircleaner), print out a high-res, actual-size transparency, use the transparency to burn (expose) a photographic silkscreen (using a small flexible-framed screen of the type used to screen glasses and mugs), and then screen it onto the aircleaner.
Anyone with a silkscreen business who does small items should have no problem doing it.

Thanks for the info. I am going to try and use AutoCAD to produce a good duplicate of the original and then get a stenciling kit and see how it looks. I've got a few old air cleaner bases to try it on before I attempt to redo the original OG unit.

Just took some measurements of the "OG" stencil on my all original '68 4-4-2 air cleaner for those interested in putting their new "OG" in the right place. It appears to me that it is located about 180 degrees away from the snout. Pictured below are the measurements I came up with, first from the snout (pic shows where I measured from the snout) around to the stencil on the side of the air cleaner body that has no holes. The next picture shows the vertical position of the stencil. All pics taken with the air cleaner body upside down. Hope this helps. Sorry about the pics - they came out sideways!

My '69 4-4-2 is a Fremont car and its build date was the third week of May 1969, and it had the "peel-and-stick" decal.
Maybe if more people chime in with the build dates of their '69 4-4-2 cars and what their air cleaners had (stencil or decal), we might be able to determine when the switch was made.
