steps for dropping the distributor on my 455 olds

I recently changed to a aftermarket intake that needed the distributor removed to be installed correctly. What steps should i take when re-installing the distributor? the motor is a 1975 455 w/HEI

Did you mark where the rotor was pointing before you removed it?

No I didn't mark anything, but i do know a little about getting it to TDC and lining the rotor and cap up with #1. But it's been awhile since i did that and it was on a chevy. The oldsmobile #1 is on the distributor closer to the firewall, i would line my rotor up with that right?
