Hi guys.
Just read a thread about using an early, non dual range hydro, on a later, 394 eng. The writer made it seem complicated. When did these engine go to external balancing from internal?? When was the last year the 371,394 used the hydro, before going to the slim jim?? Will the early non dual range trans hook up to the later dual range bellhousing and converter/coupling to avoid an unbalance condition?? This is about putting a 394, or maybe a 371, in a 49/50 Olds using the original trans. Appreciate any input. TKS DAN |

Hydra-Matic (N-Dr-Lo-R) was used from '39 to '51, Dual range Hydra-Matic (N-Dr-S-Lo-R) from '52 to '56, and Jetaway Hydra-Matic (A different trans) from '56 to '60.

Use your '50 flywheel. Have a competent shop transfer balance it to the 371/394 unit. You may need to use a pilot bushing with the later crank. Norm |
