Did a 70-442 w/4 row radiator come factory with the large ears rad cap?

Not sure what you mean by "large ears rad cap". If you mean were the extensions on the side different than 2 or 3 core radiator top plates, yes.
Standard radiator top plate for 3 core with HD cooling
4 core radiator top plate (70-72)

You very well could be right. I'm sure someone who has a 70 442 will chime in. I did find some info about them that is likely carried over between brands. Possibly one of these vendors knows as they manufacture them?

It should have a large ear cap like #2 in capstones pics. There are not really 2 options, one is correct for 1K point judging and the other MIGHT slide by depending on the judge. Nothing wrong with the small ear cap, you can use it, it works, it was the over the counter replacement for the big ear cap. This is a case where both items can be "NOS" but you can lose points at a point judged show. Personally...if I'm judging...I would rather see a large eared repro, than a small eared "NOS".

Pretty funny, I forgotten about this question on this old thread. Sounds like the 1970 442's at least still came with the big ear design. I have seen some people go back and forth around whether the solid rivet design was used vs the slightly dimpled/depressed rivet vs the fully depressed rivet. I am pretty certain that cars from 68-69 used the fully depressed or hollow rivet design. Possibly that changed into the slightly depressed rivet design for the 1970 year? I could see that being something that could have changed at some point during the 1970 production year as occurred on other very hard to notice little things, possibly from factory to factory? Again, not 100% certain
