is a stock '67 olds 442 "P" type rearend exactly the same diff used on '66 '67 GTO's?

is a stock '67 olds 442 "P" type rearend exactly the same diff used on '66 '67 GTO's?

hi all can anyone tell me if the stock '67 olds 442 "P" type differential housing the same diff used on '66 '67 GTO's?

Yes,it's the one and the same. They did however use different ID codes.

I know at least some of Pontiac center housings have a large letter N on the front top of the housing signifying a nodular iron housing. Supposedly a stronger housing, but I don't believe the cast iron versions were ever a problem for strength. So I wouldn't think that was significant. I believe all of the internals are the same.

Actually the B or P axles had the same internals. The difference being the P axle had the additional converging reinforcing rib the B axle didn't. As far as the N goes,I hadn't noticed it on the P axles I've had and don't really know if I've ever had a P axle with a Pontiac ID stamped code.
