Don't know about brush-on, but Fusick has about the best color match in a spray can. Note that this paint is heavy metallic and as such the final color is very dependent on application technique. The normal approach of several thin coats results in a much lighter than stock color. The factory applied one wet coat (they really didn't care about runs) and this technique results in a darker color. Brushing it on will produce something different still.

I have a '67 442 with the original 400 and the remains of the original valve cover sticker. The paint on the motor & valve covers was still good. I peeled off the valve cover sticker to see the how the paint had faded. It was looked to be the same and using this guys info: http://442restoration.homestead.com/restortips.html
I finally found some of the Plasti-Kote color FM8069 he mentioned. It matched perfectly in my vision. It is a lacquer. It is horrible to paint with gobs of metalic in the botom of the spray can and the nozzel plugs constantly. I wanted enamal so I went to a helpful PPG paint shop and they gave me this OMNI number by the quart: OMNI AE OEM Code M5144A, MX701855, UCMCXXA, V FORD (N. AMERICA) MED CHESTNUT POLY I haven't seen it painted as the motor is not done, so I'll wait and see (less than $30 a quart). Why in the world Olds chose that color for a motor I'll never know. Sure is pretty but what a pain for painting a motor. |

For brush on bronze engine paint I suggest POR 15. They make an Oldsmobile bronze color. I don't know if it matches the original well but the durability of the paint is superior to anything I have ever seen before. This stuff is great!

I sure like what I am hearing about the POR15 brush on engine paint!
I have a can of Olds Gold on order for my 72's 350. Not sure how close it is to original color, but as long as it stays on there (unlike the paint now) I will be happy! (Especially without priming). I will be doing the paint job this coming spring when the A/C system is pulled for resto... BTW, that copper color looks almost exactly like my old Ford's exterior paint!

The color is called "medium chestnut metallic". A long word for "copper". It still holds a shine, so it must be a toxic blend with lead or something... I do have to say it is unique!
