Fired my 67 up and let it run for a few minutes. Some guy called wanted to know if i had some olds rally 14 inch wheels. I told him $25 dollars for all four with dog tires for free. No caps or rings. Damn if he didn't show up. Thought i was helping a olds guy out! He was going to use them on a 50's chevy pickup. LOL

Brought My 47 Convertible home from Upholstery Shop

A 'red letter' day as the last major outsourced work is finished and I brought the 47 to my home shop where I can finish it up in time for convertible season (about 60 days here in the Pacific NW). I farmed out paint, upholstery and engine/trans rebuild (455 and 700 R4). Mostly small things left to do except some bumper rechroming. It is a great feeling to believe I'm on the home stretch and will have a driver in 4 months or so.

Started up the Cutlass for the first time in 2 months to move it in the garage. Had to pull it out into the snow though.

This is a really cool project! Do you have any pics of the engine compartment?

Yes, have engine compartment photos I took today but also just changed my iphone 5s to OS 10.2.1 and can no longer transfer them from the phone to my Win 7 desktop. There may be fixes but I haven't found one that works. The computer recognizes the iphone and its operating system but I don't think the iphone recognizes the computer. Will keep trying until I solve that photo transfer issue.
Thanks for the compliments.

ps. I made some sheet metal covers for the top of the inner fenders to hide the wiring you can see in the photo. They look great but won't go on until I've been running the car enough I feel like there are no electric gremlins under the hood.

I put some thick blankets over both because I need to use them as temporary "storage shelves" for parts for the current project.

Changed my U-joints as a pre-caution- 46 year old car with the originals concerned me. Easy enough to do and $35 in parts.
Removed the original Deluxe steering wheel and installed the repro Ralleye wheel I got from Fusicks (made by The Parts Place). Never liked how the original wheel felt- gonna hang it on the wall because I do like the looks.
The steering wheel change turned into a minor ordeal (typical on old cars)- the large attach nut and threads were galled badly. The nut was barely tight. Had to re-thread the steering column to a smaller diameter so the next step down was Metric M14-2 die and got a Grade 8 self-locking nut to secure it. Worked out well in the end.
This took more than a day but hey.................

I got the power booster installed and decided to yank the front wheels and inspect the brakes and repack wheel bearings. The last time I was in there was 2009. Looked like 1 wheel cylinder is starting to weep and one brake hose. So I ordered new ones from NAPA. Should be in some time today.

I thought about starting it. Then I got into other projects. Bought a thermostat the other day. Oreilly actually had it in stock in the store. Was surprised how small it was. Got a 160. If that isn't recommended...let me know. There were multiple temps to choose from. Whatever is best for the hot summers we have here.

Retrieved the 65 442 motor block from Daly's Motor (hot tank) and returned to the engine stand for continued work. Been working on this for a while, picked up in St. Joseph MO in Dec 15 (complete motor), slowly disassembled, cleaned, blasted, primed and painted. Garage art for now...

I should be getting my 66 Cutlass back from the body shop in a couple of weeks, they have all the new body panels leaded in, skim coated and are getting ready to spray the epoxy primer. I will then get the new fuel tank, exhaust and a few other items finished, then take the car back to them to spray the black finish paint work with gold pin stripes. It has been a 4 year project that is getting closer to the finished stage, but as everyone knows, this is where the process really slows down. The final stage takes alot of time to do right.

Well it wasn't today but two weeks ago I picked up the 54 after having the hydra-matic rebuilt. What a difference. The guy that rebuilt it is 77 years old and knows what he is doing. Then last Saturday I had my new Coker radials mounted. With the rebuilt transmission and the new radials it drives like a different car. My new exhaust system is supposed to be here next Wednesday. I already have the Brockman Mellow Tone mufflers. I hope to get the holes cut in the X member on Monday and get the system installed next Saturday. That will be the last change I make on the car. It is just maintenance from then on which we all know is perpetual on an old car.

Watching Joffori posts about shaking front end. So I finally replaced the center link which has always grew or joint would expand when greasing at the pitman arm. No test drive as the snow showers and cold weather is back!

No shake from mine, just when you are going at higher speeds steering left and then back to center or right would be sloppy or slow to react!

B body bumpers are extremely hard to find . There are no repros . That's why you gotta grab them when you can.

A while back I bought a parts car that came with an absolutely mint front bumper for my 66 Cutlass except for the hole someone drilled right in the middle of it to mount an eyelet to tie down his canoe.

The link didn't work. Post a pic.

I had the dual exhaust put on my 54 today. The Brockman Mellow Tone mufflers were a little louder than I wanted but I will give it some time. They seem to be loud at idle and then mellow out at the RPM's come up.

Couldn't stand it any longer. Had to go for a ride. The temps here have been in the high 60's for most of the week. They don't use sand on the roads here anymore, so I just waited for the salt dust (or whatever that is) to wash away. A little creaky for the first mile or so. Sixty one year old cars will do that. Stopped at the Mobil station for a fill up. I used half a tank starting her up over the winter in the garage! All is well.

The 1947 Convertible

Some fun, no brainer stuff the last couple of days.
Installed restored side trim. New whitewalls from Calli Tire showed up so got them mounted and balanced and put on the trim rings and baby moons. So far I'm really liking the 50's look and 15 inch dished wheels. Put the refurbished stainless rock guards on rear fenders but didn't take photo of those.

Got serious about installing the wipers...not fun. Should have been done before so much stuff went under the dash. Now a royal pain and slow going but wiper towers had to be off for the paint job.

Rope type or Neoprene? Those neoprene seals everyone sells for a 455 are actually Ford 460 rear main seals.

I got mine from MONDELLO so I'm not sure if he repackaged a FelPro but it leaks already. The rope ones weep all the time but makes me wonder if they last longer. I installed mine with sealer and turned it 30 degrees so the lip didn't line up with the cap parting lines as per MONDELLO recommendations.
