Worked till 2 today, 80*. Had to go for a cruise after the last 2 crummy weeks I've had. It's supposed to be 27* in the morning so....Outta here, 50 mile stretch with the top down. Freedom, know what I mean?
I installed the electric wiper motor on my 54 when the temp was in the 70's. It is 28 outside now and is going down to 21 tonight. I did not get the switch installed because the front started moving in.
Im wet sanding my paint job so i can buff it then start assembling. Getting lights and other stuff ready, making some new gaskets for backup lights, underhood heat/ac box. Stopped around 6 it was 75 degrees, now its 37 degrees according to the weather man in my phone.
Pulled my trans out to inspect the reason as to why I had so much glitter in my gear oil. Dismantled it completely, inspected it, did some research and found out GL-5 is not what is to be used when you have bronze, brass or copper parts. GL-5 accelerates the wear factor depending on use. So I replaced all synchros again, reassembled the trans and put it back in the car this last Saturday. Total time was Two weekend days. Getting to be a Pro with these transmissions now. Also notice excessive driveshaft yoke wear, will replace this in the early spring. Must get back to working on Plymouth through the winter time.
With the 454 in my 91 OCC finally working, I drove it to the body shop to get the hit and run damage that occurred in my dad's driveway repaired. Next to the idiots who painted it, and get the blistering paint fixed.
Received my new sun visors and trunk weatherstrip for my 66 Cutlass vert that is stored away for the winter. Weatherstrip came from Steele Rubber Products and the visors came from PUI. Nice looking stuff.
Drove the 30 miles north to Longview, WA to visit my 47 convertible in the upholstery and top shop and check on progress on the top which is the first item being done. complete upholstery re do to follow. Top is about 80% done at this point.

Went to the body shop to check on the progress of my 66 Cutlass project, I was absolutely amazed at the progress and quality of work Eddie Boggs has made on the car, Eddie works with lead as much as possible, it is a lost art form nowadays. The car has been blocked a few times and almost ready for epoxy primer. Ed will get the car in primer and give it back to me to finish the items that need addressed, such as new fuel tank, exhaust and the dash sent out to Ron Roth for him to work his magic. This was my first car and I have had it since 1975, we are doing a complete body off restoration on it, everything is new or rebuilt from top to bottom on it.I did all the work myself except for the body work, I am smart enough to know what I can and can't do. I have tried to stay true to the original work with safety upgrades along the way, such as disc brakes and 3 point seat belts. I believe Ed will deliver a finished product I can be proud of for many years to come.

I need help I am replacing my pinion seal on my 1953 Oldsmobile but after the got the nut and yoke off then old pinion seal out.......There was a really long broken spring in there from I guess holding the pinion bearing in place but I dont know what it is! DO you?
Do you have any experience with pinion seals? I am replacing mine but I dont know what this spring is? Its a 53 olds 88 It looks like it helps hold the pinion bearing in place

i got a lot of stuff I don't plan on using so I will sell of some to redirect the cash to my build as well as help others with theirs. So today I decided to move forward and make a difference.
Thanks Trip and Randy, its actually 66 Cutlass quarter panel i got from Henry 66400 several years ago. I had to weld up the trim holes, Cutlass script holes, one small hole at about 2:30 on the wheel well lip, and a approx 2 X 8" section at the bottom rear that had alot of pin holes. It came out pretty good i think, the quarter it self was very straight. Had to remove the 66 tail light cup and put in a 67. The fit is great, as it should be, being a factory piece. Im pleased so far, but still alot of buffing, I dont like buffing, it scares me.LOL
Its the first time i ever installed a new quarter.

Did you do all the grunt work too? Filler, sand, fill, sand fill, etc., etc.? If so, I am very impressed. Never seen a quarter that straight that had work done on it............
Yes i did all that, it really didnt need much except the areas i welded/repaired. Otherwise the quarter was very straight. Welding/grinding, epoxy primer, some filler, more epoxy, high build primer, alot of block sanding, more high build if needed, more block sanding, sealer and paint. Its not perfect but it looks pretty good i think.
I just found this thread, thought I would add to it as I have been tinkering with my 58 98.
Waiting for the new gas tank and sender unit, supposed to be here today, along with front wheel cylinders. Already replaced the rear wheel cylinders, all 4 were seized, tried to clean them up but decided to replace instead. I prefer this beast to stop when required.
I went to pull the flex fuel line to blow out the fuel lines and it came off in pieces.
Rebuilt the steering linkage assembly, it was very gummed up, new idler arm.
Pulled the tranny pan as there was no fluid in it so will replace the gasket before filling and attempting to start the engine. Has not run in over 20 years. I was told no reverse, so I guess I will see.
Got new shocks for it, rims coated, new tires. New plugs installed.
I have all the chrome for it, and new carpeting came with it, still in the box.
And on and on and on. I will keep updating if anyone is interested.

I ordered a pair of stainless headers on eBay for $144. At that price I can afford to do any massaging if necessary. If they fit, I'll ceramic coat the inside only. I ordered a fairly expensive pair made by Doug's and I had to take a hammer to them anyway. I don't plan on changing them in the near future but at that price I just couldn't resist.

Great job on that quarter. I need to do the same on my 66 eventually. Both sides. Have you ever seen any new outer wheel houses that fit our model year?
Did you get a dual diaphragm unit? I found a chrome 7" dual diaphragm on Ebay and braking power is as good if not better than the 8" stock unit.
No, putting an 11 inch back on. My buddy was going to give me a dual diaphragm 8 in that I turned down. As far as what I've read the power boost difference is negligible and the only advantage is the amount of space they take up for VC clearance. I don't have that issue.

You have that much clearance on your 67? I don't think I could even make an 11" fit on my 66. They must have made a major change in brake booster location between 66 and 67.
Just bid on some tubular upper control arms. Hoping that will give me more header clearance. My current passenger side upper has been ground down and still poked a dent into the header. Won't be long before that becomes a hole.
