I will be working on the generator as soon as it gets light enough to see good. It appears that it gave it up on the way home last night from a show. Came home on the battery with very yellow head lights.and this makes four generators that have gone out on me since the rebuild. I'm getting tired of the expense and the unreliability of whats available out there. Admittedly I screwed one up by over tightening one but the rest just quit putting out juice, the last one was only four months old...... Tedd

Busy day. Off whole day from work and dropped the baby off at sitters.......
Bought new tires cooper cobra 235-70-15 and fabbed the 1975 cutlass wheel covers to fit my 1969 delta wheels.
Rebuilt my Rochester two barrel, replacing everything inside. Second time in two weeks I have had her off n open, she's purring now
Added a coolant recovery system
Installed a new battery.
Broke now but deltas happy.

Guys:
I talked to the body shop guy about the progress of the restoration, he told me to go ahead and install the transmission, engine, exhaust and get the complete rolling chassis finished before dropping the body back down on the frame, then I should bring it to him after that.

87 cutlass supreme brohaum 350 chevy caprice motor car was stalling had timing set it still stating in 2nd gear but then pick up speed and it takes a min for to switch gears any ideals of wats the problem

Racing my 1972 442 in Medicine Hat AB this weekend. Last night ran three Test and Tune 10.96 @ 120.5 mph passes with 1.47 and 1.48 60' times at 5000' plus corrected elevation. Also put a 10.99 on the board. Too bad my dial was 11.01. Out in second round.

Heading to the track this morning for more fun.

First time ive ever done this, rt. quarter looks better than it really is in the pics. Has had serious damage at the bottom end and the top by the trunk lid is very wavy and low, had at least 1/2 inch of bondo to raise it. The local restoration guy said he would replace the whole quarter. So in 2 weeks ill be meeting Henry (66400). Buying a quarter from him. Man theres alot of spot welds on these!!!

took out the transmission cleaned up, put in new shift kit and gaskets ,then reinstalled .proceded to remove carb and rebuild it . fired it up for the first time in months fine tuned it .

the old rocket is running like a swiss watch. this is more like what have you done to your olds this year though

After 2 weeks of rain finally some sunshine so I lowered the tailgate to dry the soggy carpet under the decklid.



In the meantime I replaced a broken turn signal, off course no metric bolts so it took some time to get it out.
I found out you can easily make the black trim on the chrome like new with a permanent black marker.

Took the '71 to the local weekly cruise in, a small but regular group. One of three Oldsmobiles there tonight. A beautiful '69 Vista Cruiser, a sweet '85 442 and my '71 Cutlass S. With maybe 15 to 20 cars there, not a bad ratio!

Felt good to connect to the car by driving her, but she still needs a ton of work. Apart from cleaning and aesthetics, the front end felt pretty loose so I'll need to spend some time on that this winter along with the top end rebuild.

Insurance is good until midnight tonight so there will be some more shake down cruises today

I finally got tired of looking at the blood red under my 66, so drained the tranny fluid, and dropped the pan. I couldn't see a thing wrong with the rubber type gasket, yet it leaked badly. I took a ruler and ran it over the top part of the tranny bolt holes, and there it was. The holes had crowns in them, so I could see daylight between the bolt holes, when I held the ruler from hole to hole.

I went to a salvage yard, and the guy said that he probably had a few pans, but said that they would all be the same. He told me to order a new one. Sheez. I checked the internet, and found that this is nothing new, and a couple of guys, just said to get a deep well socket, and tap down on each hole. Well, I had it this far, so went to Advance Auto to pick up a new gasket and filter. I asked the guy what he thought. He said that he could order me a new pan, but just said to do the same thing with a hammer and socket.

Well, the tranny is full, no leak, so it worked.

Now, I see I have a pinion leak. I changed the rear gasket last winter, and put in new grease. Grr, it's coming out the front. I've never changed that seal before, but, it looks like that will be next. I need to drive it more often.

I just got done changing every burnt out, or not working light bulb, from front to back. If my spare time is worth $2 an hour ($5 an hour if running a vacuum cleaner) I just buried myself in labor!

Pulled out the upholstery cleaner, a Mr. Clean sponge, and paper towels and went to town on the inside of my newly purchased Toro this afternoon. I had no idea it would clean up this well. Next comes the financially hard part- the body shop. She came from the rust belt and it shows. I knew there was rust on the quarter panels but I didnt think they would become holes once they were pushed on. I think that I may have to go get a tetanus shot now...

Been short on time this summer, so this weekend I had to make it up.
Yesterday I got her running after sitting since December and pulled her out of the garage into the back. Shut her off for the last time in I figure will be 2 years and pulled the engine.
Today I pulled the body off the frame and power washed the chassis. Trying to find a way to get the rotisserie into the garage so I can work on it during the winter. Those things don't roll that easy.

Okay this month we installed doors, deck lid,fenders and cowl all adjusted win in specs (well I hope) block sanded found about a dozen high/low spots adjusted and spot primed and with any luck reblocksand and paint this weekend

I spent both days this weekend detailing the engine. It was fairly clean but did not match the rest of the car. I stripped it down to the engine and sprayed it with the correct green paint from Bill Hirsch. Then I used Eastwood underhood black on most everything else. I cleaned the valve cover down to bare metal on the wire brush on the bench grinder. Tonight will will put the stencils on them and paint the embossed Oldsmobile Rocket yellow. I still have to put them and the carb and distributor cap and wires back on. I changed the crankshaft pulley and water pump pulley to the 4 groove ones I have so I will be able to add A/C over the winter. Man this was some hard dirty work and my back hurts this morning.

Well i got the quarter panel partially installed. Its welded in numerous places so i hope it dosent need to come back off! All body lines im happy with. The top of the fender by the trunk lid is even with the trunk which was one of the problems with the original fender. It was about 1/2 inch low from previous damage. This is my first time to do this, there were almost 150 spot welds to cut from the original fender and the donor fender. And now that many to weld up along with the cut at the bottom of the sail panel/ B pillar. I used a 66 Cutlass fender so i had to weld up the trim holes and change the tail light cup as they are different from 67's. The tail light lines up nicely with the fender and trunk gap. There was one brace above the 66 tail light cup that was different than the 67, had to cut it out which left a sizeable hole in the fender but i can patch that in with the piece the 67 cup came out of... not a problem. I was working alone so at first it was difficult to get the fender on just straight, the top of the door gap was touching the door and the back end was too low. Not sure what I did but suddenly it straightened out and all gaps are good. I used a bigger cut off wheel on my 4.5 grinder on the donor fender at the B pillar/ sail panel which was a mistake, not as much control so the cut is not as straight and nice as on the car cut but i can get it welded. I tried to post pics but suddenly its says i have a security token missing?

The whole day spent drinking a little beer with a friend while doing a complete detailing of the Mistress. Two coats of wax on the body(wax on wax off), polished cleaned and waxed the chrome(all of it inside and out)and there was a ton of chrome. Worked on the wide whites with Black Magic then cleaned the uphorsty and the top boot. Stick a fork in me I'm done. Tedd

Well I decided to take advantage of this beautiful day by doing a little front-end restoration work on the Toronado. So I decided to take apart the hideaway headlight grill/doors/shutters, inner headlight covers, inner grill, and the radiator top plate so I could do a little cleaning and paint prep work. After a few hours of the not so fun stuff, you know the degreasing, Cleaning, Masking, etc... I was finally able to get some painting done. I also decided to go ahead and paint the inner headlight covers and inner grill the same silver metallic as the shutters. I know it's not the original look, but what's the use of having an inner grill if you can't even see it??? Well anyways, I got everything put back together and still had a couple hours of daylight to spare. Therefore, I definitely have to say it was a satisfying and productive day for me...

I really think the silver was a good choice. I think it majorly enhances the overall appearance of the inner grill when the headlight shutters are open.

Bought the relays to convert my headlight system,new battery cables,4 new halogen headlights, connectors and wiring to build the headlight harness. Now all I need is a rainy day to work on it.

Well the old girl got a new dress last weekend

So I dug out her tail panel and tail lights, as I thought they were good drivers and realized my chrome looks awfull now, tail light lens are old and cloudy. Going to polish the best I can and thinking if trying some head light restorer on my tail light lense to see how they turn out

New plugs yesterday, oil change today, maybe pull all the hard gas lines, brackets some other small stuff then repaint what I can under the hood tomorrow. Shure would be nice to re paint the block again but there is to much stuff in the way to do a decent job....Tedd

Crap, while doing a oil change today I found a cracked right hand exhaust manifold, now I hope I have a used one in the equipment shed. I saw one a while back but can't remember if it was for the right or left. It never ends....Tedd

Took apart my tail lights cleaned up the chrome and wet sanded a applied restorer they turned out okay not my best work but the lenses are just about fifty years old

Ive just about finished with the quarter panel install on my 67. So far im very pleased with the results. Did some body filler at the bottom of the B pillar/sail panel where I cut it and welded it, and at the top of the tail light. On the old quarter and the new one, both had like seam sealer to shape the area around the top inboard side of the tail light. It appeared to be done at the factory this way. My door and trunk body gaps are perfect, Im happy.

Got the old girl running again today after nearly a month.
I had foolishly removed the battery earth lead with the engine running in an ill advised attempt to check for a faulty generator (yeah, I know) and blew the ignition module that I fitted last year. Lesson learned the hard way
Decided to revert back to points but the set I ordered from Amazon.com never arrived! On the plus side with the car being off the road it's given me time to do the more involved welding to a large part of the passenger floor pan which was well rotten and been patched up with screwed on plates and body filler!
Fortunately have since found a supplier for the points/condenser in the UK and once I got the dizzy back in she fired straight up! Now timed up and with the dwell set she's running as sweet as ever. The timing marks are bang on every blink of the strobe on this motor, most of the cars I've owned in the past have had some scatter to varying degrees but not the Olds..
