torque converter
I was told that the trans in my car had a 12in high stall torque converter and thats all the info I was given. we pulled the engine to do a swap and the torque converter had the number 5 stamped all around the circumference. This is in a 1987 cutlass 442 with a 200 4r trans. does anyone know what this means as far as what size the converter is?

I have heard the factory-installed converter of the mid-80s 442s refered to as the "D5" model. I don't know if that's what the "5" you see refers to.
It is a lock-up converter (which is important for a TH-200 4R transmission), and it is indeed higher stall than the non-442 applications received. In my experience they stall at about 2400 rpm (behind the anemic 307).
