1970 Cutlass Charcoal Fuel Canister

Can anyone confirm if a 1970 Cutlass Convertible came with a charcoal fuel canister? I am asking because mine does not have one.

Some did, some didn't. Calif cars got them in 1970. Other states got them in 1971.

not to revive an old post from dead, what is the purpose of the canister and how often do they require a replacement?

It holds gasoline vapor for the engine to suck out and burn when it's running.

As far as I know, they last forever, but I'm sure someone else will know more accurately.

Charcoal Canister

In what condition is the bracket that holds the canister? Mine on my 1972 Supreme (350 ci with 4bbl) has several rust holes and my mechanic lost the odd screw that tightens the bracket around the canister when he tried to remove the canister for the first time since my car was new. I finally removed it myself after a lot of pulling and straining!! I would like to keep mine original and paint it and the bracket as well, but would like to find a bracket in better shape than mine and hopefully with that odd screw. Also, do you know if your canister is original to your car with the two nipples to connect to the two rubber vacuum hoses? I have seen later ones with different configurations.
