Hey there all. Does anyone know if there is a source for axles for a flange retained (non C clip) 8.5" 10 bolt rear end? Seems if you look on Summit or places of the like, c clip axles are all that are available. I'm looking for one axle half ways on the cheap. It's looking like it may be a special order at this point which will obviously be $$$. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks

One of the folks on here may have a used one. The speed vendors don't support bop parts very well.

Moser can make any axle shaft you want.

If you want "cheap", then you want used.

My axle was just rebuilt and axles are not installed yet. I can draw it and post deminsions. It's a 72 SA B xxx maybe tonight.

Who rebuilt them? Do you mean you had someone like Moser make you new axles?

I have a NOS non C-clip axle shaft but don't know what it firs. Found it in an Oldsmobile dealers attic many years ago in a non GM box marked 5.420 / 1254369 so don't know if this number is correct. This number is not in my 66/67 parts book. It has a 5x4 3/4 bolt pattern, 28 splines and measures 26" from bearing retainer to spline end and is 1 3/4" diameter at spline end. If anyone is interested call me 630-730-6614. I have had it a long time and it needs to find a new home!

That looks like 1973-77 A-body (except wagon) with B or O type axle.

Had posi , new bearings, etc put in existing unit. Axles are not new. He did not put axles into housing because I am installing disk brakes on the rear. The measurements will be of old usable axles with bearings on them.

I've used Dutchman before for driveshafts, they are great when it comes to customer service and turn around.

And wow, they actually list a replacement factory type axle:

They say they have sealed type bearings too, now I'm going to have to look and see if they are correct or not. Sweet.

That's a good drawing, but the surface that the bearing and retaining ring press onto needs to be specified to a much tighter precision than 1 7/8". It's this press fit that retains the axle and you need to be correct within a couple of thousandths.

Monzaz from this site sells those flange-type axles too, just bought a pair from him.
My other axle wasnt at best shape, and since they werent even pairs to start with ( other has been changed at some point) i thought id replace both for the sake of having everything new at the rear.

Hes absolutely best guy ive ever dealt when doing business, i highly recommend him.
Have bought everything from him whats inside the rear housing.

I need exact measurements, since I need to have an axle made.

The bearing area I believe is 1.380, and the inner dimension for the A9 bearing is 1.375. But I think I can get that info from Dutchman.

Might be able to get other dimensions from Dutchman too, and may use that to order from Moser, so I have a matched pair. (Not that it really matters)

I need a 30 spline though, have a Tru-Trac diff in it. But good info!
