Just curious what RPM's would be like in the city (say 25-40mph) with a 3.42 posi in a 350 4bbl and TH350 with specs similar to a 1970 350 (hopefully near W31 specs)?

I rarely go on the highway, but still would like to. Wondering if 3.73 or 3.90's would be overkill, but on the other hand do not want to be bogging in the city. I also do not want to add an overdrive trans. Want to keep that as stock as possible (other than perhaps beefier internal trans mods).

Just wondering how much hassle (or even worth it) it would be to upgrade a 8.5" corporate 10 bolt w/ 28-spline rear end to a 30-spline resulting in 30/30 splines for both axle and pinion?

In that case, what Eaton posi unit would be needed, since the 28-spline one below will no longer work?

Eaton Posi 19557-010

I have inherited two g-body differentials, one of which is rust free and has new backing plates, but the side gears have been destroyed. The other is so rusted out that the axle tubes could fracture. My plan is to transfer the side gears of this one to the other. I have removed the pinion shaft bolt on both and it is an 8mm about 1/2" long. The pinion shaft is still locked in place. What am I missing??

Who offers 100% USA made (or Canada - we make things here?) ring and pinion gears?

If my gears say 'Made in China' on the box or something, I think I will go postal. I might be able to tolerate Italy or Germany perhaps.

I just want 100% USA or Canadian made rear end parts is all. I hear Richmond is 100% Made in USA... but Motive is not for example. On that alone, I would tolerate the apparent noise Richmond's make.

Hi I'm new here (from Eastern Canada) I have a 73 Cutlass Supreme and planning to change out the running gear dropping a 455 in it with a th400.

I picked up a 8.5 posi with a 3 ser carrier (410408N) but havn't a clue what the other numbers I found are, can someone decode them

Stamped on the outside housing 8NV G4115

On the ring gear 2GM 1235124 15 41 4 84
I manage to search and find out the 15 41 is for 2.73

This rear end seems to be a direct bolt in, it's the same width and the spring and shock mountings seem to be the same. It also had a sway bar.

This is a great site for getting info and been lurking for the past year.

Thanks
Leo

I have a '72 Cutlass Supreme and want to upgrade to 3.42 posi from the one wheel deal 2.73 I have now. I want all new parts, but am a bit clueless as to what I need.

Am I correct in that what I need are a Ring and Pinion gear set, posi unit/carrier, and then the gaskets, seals, etc. rebuild kit? I would like to get a Richmond gear set and an Eaton posi unit, as I have heard they are one of the best. School me otherwise if not. I am assuming 8.5" and 30-spline?

I also want to completely disassemble the rear end, and powder coat it.
