Has anyone performed a conversion of a manual steering to power steering in their 442? I am seriously considering it and am wondering if there are any "watch out for" moments in doing this? It appears that 68-72 steering boxes are interchangeable (at least what I have read elsewhere) and the parts, both salvage and rebuilds are readily available.

Thoughts/comments welcome.

Thanks

I was wondering if anyone could explain how the idle is affected when the air conditioner is turned on. The only wires in my engine harness seems to go to the ported vacuum switch and the heater harness which goes to the blower motor, resistor, compressor clutch and relay. Should the idle go up to compensate the a/c clutch kicking in. The other question is my assemble manual (section12 page 170) shows my wire from the heater harness going directly to the blower motor, yet on another page (section12 page 164) it has a capacitor that attaches to the blower motor for noise suppression. When I disassembled the car, I did not have one of these capacitors attached to the blower motor, only under the dash next to the steering column.

Hey all,
Recently asked you guy's where to get a trunk lid and spoiler to put on my convertible...purchased from Fusick and all is well until I go to mount the spoiler...no template or instructions for spoiler placement. Fusick answers back and says that the spoiler on converts was dealer installed only and was not a factory installed option?? this was something I had never heard of nor had ever anticipated...does this make sense? If so, am I looking at installing where I think is proper? I have a pretty good feel for where it should go but this caught me by surprise...any help would be appreciated...we are spraying this afternoon.

It is the driver-side automatic version in my 1966 442 and I really need a passenger-side to that.

Maybe someone can identify that model, as the "usual" places only show other types of mirrors and I am sure, that the one on the photo is the original...

Please ignore the dirt on the mirror, it is nearly snowing in Austria and that was the last ride this year, before cleaning and storing away..;)

Thank you !

My 1972 442 has the bigger engine (VIN code U) and it appears to have had a top post battery originally based on the battery cables in the car (which are original). My understanding is that in 72, some came with top post and some came with side post batteries. Since mine appears to be a top post, what is the correct Delco battery that came with it?

I was wondering if anybody could tell me if the glove box lamp should be exposed when you open the glove box door. The lamp that I have has one side painted black. I thought this was done from the previous owner when he switched the interior from pearl to black. I purchased a second glove box lamp and noticed that the back side is also painted black. The assembly manual shows the lamp being installed with what would be the black painted face toward the glove box side which doesn't make sense. I assumed that they blacked out the one side of the lamp so that the light did not reflect light inside the back side of the dash.
