Hi,

Newbie here. Spent the past few days taking my car completely apart to have the body shop do a frame-off resto-mod.

While apart, I'm having my stock 1970 Olds Cutlass Supreme 350 Rocket 2 barrel with A/C rebuilt. Machine shop is boring .30 over, rebuilding heads, upgrading cam, etc., etc.

Can you recommend the following that won't require any mods?
-Intake manifold
-4BBL carb w/electric choke
-HEI (want to eliminate coil and points, etc.)
-Headers that will last and not need tightening

Thanks so much.

Jim

Well, we've all been experiencing the same frustration and withdrawal when the site went down. It was so exhilarating when it came back.

Where are the email subscriptions to the threads we talk back and forth on? They were so handy to share updates on.

Any of you mods know what's going on? Omicron? Dan? Rob, Jamesbo, cittcap? Anyone??

I miss getting the emails. I've mentioned it in one of my thread replies, but maybe we need a thread to draw this feature back into the limelight. Does anyone have email coming to them? On another note, some of the PMs don't seem to be getting through either. Anyone one else notice this?

I'm getting ready to pull this 350 out of my 72 Supreme. The block casting # is 395558 and it has 7A heads with casting # 409 147. It has the stock intake, casting # 410446 and a Q-jet carb. Comes with an HEI distributor installed as well as the original points distributor as an extra. The A/C parts, alternator and brackets are not incuded.
I bought this car w/engine 5 years ago and was told it was running. By the time I went to pick up the car, the seller had stripped the battery, starter and fuel pump so I was not able to verify that it ran. Unknown if any work was ever done on this motor and the mileage is also unknown. Pick up only unless you arrange your own crating & shipping.
I also have a Chevy TH350 that was bolted to this motor if anyone is interested in that.
$350 for the motor, can be picked up in the Detroit area (48073 zip). $75 for the tranny. I will post more pics when the motor is removed.
Thanks for looking! :)

I am about 11 months into the restoration of my 70 Olds Cutlass S. All numbers are matching except for the carberator, which came off a 71 Toronado,...

I am about 11 months into the restoration of my 70 Olds Cutlass S. All numbers are matching except for the carberator, which came off a 71 Toronado, best I can tell.

This has been alot of fun as a weekend project for most of the year. I am at the point where I would like to fire the engine for the frist time since re-installation. The transmission was rebuilt also along with the carb. You can see my pictures to get an idea of my status. I can tell that someone else has made an attempt to restore the car before I got it. The body paint is bad with little to no prep work done. Some rust blistering through. As I am keeping on a budget the paint and body work will be after I pay the gov't there share of my hard earned $$ in April. I can only hope the spend it wisely.

I'm sure many of you experienced rebuilders can guess what problems arise when you are trying to follw up behind some one elses work. I was suprised when I was cleaning the head light bezels, which are stainless steel, and found that someone actually painted over the stainless with silver paint. A lot of polishing - I got them cleand up back to original. Anyway, some of my new challenges are electrical wiring and needing some other minor parts which are hard to locate. These include: 1. spark plug wires (for elec ign), 2. Oil Dip Stick Tube, 3. Window Washer Bottle. Any assistance or advise is welcomed and greatly appreciated.

The Ms. and I went out to the Zone Show spoonored by the TX Chapter of OCA last month and met some great people who share the same passion as I do. I look forward to hearing from and meeting many of you in the future. Best to all.

Basically, the guy has a rear and a 455 sitting and wants a donor. SO WHY USE A REAL W-30 RAGTOP AS A DONOR?

Sure, maybe he thought it was a clone and wanted a solid car, but he wasn't even sure what year it was (I think he could tell, but he didn't bother). Just thought it strange . . .

Alright, here goes my ramble... lol

I got laid off a few weeks ago (I'm already back part time two days a week) but that's another story that's quite complicated in itself.
Anyways, this has given me some "extra" time :D , (but little cash,) to do some work on the Olds. (Refresher, 1969 Cutlass Supreme with 1970 350)
I am getting ready to try and fire it up, but need to make a few other decisions first. The car is an original A/C car, but I am not going to run the A/C, thus I want to install the two grove pulleys that I have instead of the three groove ones.
Question, what do I need to do different with all of the hose routings etc from the A/C box on the firewall now that there will be no A/C compressor.
Does anyone have any pic of cars with the compressor not installed, but the A/C box still there hooked up however it would be?
Also, any other tips on what to make sure of before proceding to start it, like wiring etc. I'd like to fire it up just like on an engine stand, not using the complete wiring for the car. Just the basics needed ti fire it up. My wiring is kind of a mess righr now so I'll just use the necessary wires first. I don't want to use the ignition key to do it. Anyone know what i need to do?
All pointers and advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Duane

I'm having problems with getting the right air shocks for my 71 cutlass supreme convertable.:( I'm working with Napa and we have ordered 2 model numbers of monroe shocks. The MA805's were totally wrong and the MA717's have the right mounts but seem to be twisted 15 degrees or so. Is this how the shocks are supposed to be because the rusty old ones don't seem to have this twist fom mount to mount. Has any body ordered any lately that would have the correct model number? There isn't a way to modify the degree of twist out of the shock is there. Should I just punt with NAPA and get them somewhere else. Any insight would help, Thanks.
