Help with 6 volt system - 1948

I've never worked with a 6 volt system, especially a positive ground system. I know how to work with 12 volt which seems much easier. I'm rewiring my 48 Olds 78 and am not sure how to hook up my Gas Gage, Ammeter, etc. Do I connect the power (+) wire to one side and ground to the other side? Like my Gas gage. I have a good sending unit in the tank so itss grounded to the tank, then I run the other wire to the gas gage---it doesn't work! Is my thought process Wrong??

Voltage and ground polarity are irrelevant - electricity still works the same way.

It sounds like what you need is a wiring diagram.

I do have wiring diagrams. I must be putting to much thought into it. If every electric device has two wires it/they should work then?

If the polarity is wrong, it may work backward (like a fuel gauge).

I have done a few 12 volt conversions on old tractors i.e. 8N-9N Ferds and various Allis tractors. Ditto on the ammeter will read discharge if hooked up wrong, just switch the wires.

Are you sure it is positive ground?
My '37 Olds Eight is negative ground.
Time for a service manual.

General comment on 6-volt systems, be SURE you are using the correct gauge wiring to match OEM. All 6-volt wire is heavier gauge than comparable 12 volt. This is especially important with battery and main starter cables, you need 0 or 00 gauge like welding cables.
