Brake Light issue
Hey guys, I own a 68 Toronado....Having small issues with the brake lights.
When I'm slowing or pumping the brakes only the passenger side works, But when I come to a complete stop, they all work. Any ideas? Thanks |

Interesting. There's only one switch and one wire going to the rear of the car, so I'm thinking there's some corrosion in the wiring or connectors someplace. The resistance causes the filaments in the LH bulbs to take longer to heat up.

fustrated!
Checked out my brake light issue on Sunday. They only work when I use the turn signals. All connections looked good, brake switch is good and getting power. Leaves me to believe I need a new turn signal switch. I began my hunt today and boy this is not going to be easy. Anybody have any ideas ?
Thanks, Dan |

I dont have a wire diagram but let me say that the 1157 bulbs have 2 filaments in them....the lighter one is for the regular tailights and the heavier filament is for the brake and turn signals. When you step on the brakes the 2 heavier filaments come on. If you use a flasher or turn signal it interrupts the brake lights to make that filament blink. I think there should be a fuse for the brake/signal lights...check that and make sure voltage is going in and out of the brake light switch. Also test the bulbs with a meter and check lamp sockets too for voltage....grounds too...I think with a little troubleshooting and a meter you will find the problem.
