I need the pro`s! Blower motor with a/c
Hi Guys,
I really need your help!
My car is a 70 Cutlass S, i swapped in a 455 and deleted the ac box.
My restoration Thread you find here:
http://https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/major-builds-projects/18172-back-again-my-new-project.html
It still has the blower motor in it.
So i hooked up the complete wiring to the ac control unit....
I throwed out the resistor from the ac box...
So yesterday i tried the blower motor but it doesnt work....
Tell me; does the blower motor work with 12+ and ground or do i need the resistor????
I dont care about hi and low speed just wanna know if it works with just 12+ Volt and a ground.....
I really appreciate any help i can get!!!!!
Thank you
Regards from Germany

Thanks for your reply guys!
Today i checked everything again, but the motor doesnt run.... so it seems that this thing is wrecked....
As i got my car, there were just the resistor in front of the ac box, but no relay or something.... is there something missing????
Thanks again

Hi Guys,
Ive ordered a new four seasons blower motor, hooked it up with 12+ and ground but nothing works again...??????????
What do i need exactly, ive searched thru smp, summit, and the whole net.....
Just a relay, or a relay and a resistor and if yes, it would be awesome if you have any "numbers".......
Ive found the RY-8 Relay from SMP, would that be the correct one???
But whats up with that resistor .... can i use one from a cadillac (just for example ) ?????
Thank you!!!!!!!

No pro here, but I will comment...
That's the one!
It mounts next to the brake booster. The relay coil 12V side connects to the dash switch 'high' position with part of the factory harness.
The coil grounds through the relay case (when screwed to the firewall).
The 12V from the horn relay junction passes through an inline fuse holder, through the relay contacts, to the blower motor. Blower motor gets grounded.
From what I remember, the resistor does not have to be present for high speed to work. However, the harness must be there and intact.
If your motor will not run connected right across the battery, then it must be bad.

Thanks Rob!
So i will order this relay and see what happens...
If i got you correct, and i just hook 12volt and ground to the brand new! blower motor and it doesnt run, it is wrecked?!?! D*mn.....
Thanks for your Help!!!!!

No magic here - just 12V to the motor should make it spin.
It can draw 10 amps or so, therefore the battery needs to be healthy.
Not sure if you have a one wire or 2 wire unit. If one wire, then the metal case is ground (negative).
I have heard about new units being bad, so that would not surprise me. It does happen now and then.
For that reason i would always test a new one before installing it.

For testing purposes, hook a wire directly from the + terminal of the battery to the + tab on the motor. The heater box is fiberglass, so be SURE that the ground wire from the metal plate that the motor is attached to runs to a good ground point on the car. For testing purposes, run it to the - terminal of the battery. That's the absolute first test you should do before worrying about any relay or resistor or anything else.
