Hello,
My name is chris and I've got an 87' 442 equipped with an engine block warmer. The other day I noticed a puddle of coolant under my car, so I started it to find the leak and found out that its coming from the engine block warmer...which is mounted in the bottom right engine block...I don't know a whole lot about block warmers... and if anyone could help me out with info on how to go about repairing this it would be much appreciatted. Thanx! ChRiS [ July 23, 2004: Message edited by: Diabolus ]</p> |

Ok, found out that what I need to do the job is a softplug or a new block warmer...I bought a soft plug and know how to install it, what I don't know is if there is a special tool required to remove the bad block heater. The motor is a stock 307 if that helps. I noticed the soft plug has a 5/8 nut on it to snug it in and cause a seal, but I don't feel a nut on the block heater...which has left me wondering how to go about removing it. Any info would be a big help!

If you want to remove it without damaging it, I am not sure. If you don't care about damaging it, just use a narrow chisel or punch and knock one edge out like you would a factory freeze plug. I think those things are compression fit so good luck.
