Yep. If you use the 12si style it's really easy to do. You can buy the correct plug to fit the alternator(depending on which alternator you use) over the counter at most auto parts stores for about $3. Hook up the two wires and leave the rest off.

You have to jump the regulator connection on the firewall. I don't know the procedure, but someone here should. I think Joe Padavano might.

I put a CS130 140amp chrome alternator in my '70 442 clone.
It's a piece of cake. That wiring diagram posted makes it more complicated then it is. You eliminate the blue wire , and white wire completely. Why you might ask?? Because if you start patching different colored wires together, it's going to complicate your troubleshooting later when you forget you did this. ![]() It's not a clean install and will drive you nuts if you forget later down the road. You run the brown wire to terminal 1 of the Alternator, the other end goes to the GEN light in your gauge cluster You run the red wire from terminal 2 to the Charging post of the Alt. (6 inches) You run the heavy gauge wire from the charging post to the Horn Relay. I wanted more juice for my electric fans and 350watt Kicker amp I installed. Now I just have to get some wire looms and shorten up my MSD plug wires. ![]() ![]() Last edited by Aceshigh; October 13th, 2009 at 04:03 AM.. |

My car isn't an all original 442 , it's a clone. So I don't foresee a future at Barrett Jackson or Mecum with false claims of all original low mileage ![]() Each owner will have a different goal with their car. So there's no wrong, or right way. But in all sincerity, the point I was trying to make is, if you do it, do it NICE. How many used classic muscle cars are out there with botch jobs under the hood that the next owner has to unravel and troubleshoot because someone was too lazy to do a clean install ??? Alot. When it comes to wiring, IMO......it should be one single colored wire (or striped) per end to end circuit run. I just dealt with this in my 78 Camaro's aftermarket harness install by my cousins husband who was a complete retard and took 3 different colored wires crimped together on one circuit. Do you have any idea how annoying it is to NOT being able to trace anything without ripping all the sheathing off to figure that out for each circuit ?? Also, I'm not a purist.....so that may be a reason we disagree. I prefer modernized protouring classicsLast edited by Aceshigh; October 13th, 2009 at 02:23 PM.. |
