Ever since I got my car it is hard to shut the drivers door. It does not sag at all. The door jamb part the the door latches too is good shape, no malformation in it. Looks like it is in the same place is was when it was made.
The latch mechanism works fine on the door. It is just when I close it I have to slam the door really hard to get it to close fully, and not bounce around on the door jamb part. Door wont fly open but it is not shut firmly. There is nothing in the way that I can see, I don't get it. I hate to kit slamming it hard all the time and break something. The latch in the door look fine. Something out of alignment?

I had a similar problem with my 75 Delta. The door jamb lock pin. It should have a plastic barrel around the pin. It should not be just metal. The problem is caused by the plastic falling off after years of use. The result is a smaller diameter steel pin that the door lock does not work well with because the diameter is to small.

The helps section at the auto parts store will have a direct replacement that works fine. It's about a $6 fix

are you talking about the pin on the door jam that the door lock/catch catches onto?

Yes, the door lock striker is usually tightend down via an Allen wrench. It very important that the pin has a plastic sleeve or washer in the area where the door lock grabs onto the pin. Without the plastic piece the diameter of the pin is too small.

Dorman part number 38420 should be available from Autozone for about $9.

Both of my doors were missing the plastic silencer washer that is used by the door lock to work properly. Basically I had to slam the door hard to get the latch to lock. At that point the door was actually loose and would move about 3/16 and bounce around as I drove. The door stayed closed, it just was loose. I replaced the striker with the 38420 and the door was instantly fixed. Check it out!

You might have to adjust the striker pin, but if the washer is damaged or missing the door will be hard to close. The pin is adjusted by loosening it with an Allen wrench slide it around and re-tighten it. Small movements only as it doesn't take too much to get it not to close, but it's fairly easy to get it into a good working position.

I moved the striker on the drivers door, at times still have to slam it to get a good close/no rattling around. I noticed now that the pass wide does it a little also, always closes with one pull but jiggles a little. I looked at them, the little metal ring is still on the strikers, was not loose as I have seen on other old cars I owned.

The plastic bushing (Door lock striker bushing for GM.) are listed on EBay As a separate item without purchasing the striker. Larry

The plastic washers are part of the striker for $9. Autozone or whatever parts store is by you should have the plastic bushing or the entire striker. The $9 replacement part I listed is an exact replacement and you has to take the striker bolt entirely out to replace the bushing, so replacing the entire part is easy and fast. Not sure what yo mean about the metal ring the door latches on the plastic bushing. Search on Dorman 38420 and you will see a bunch of pictures that show the part with a grey or tan bushing.

I had a 70 Camaro, on the striker right in the middle of it there was a METAL ring that had worked loose allowing the door to move around also. Can't say I have seen one with a plastic pc in the same place I mention the metal one here.

Well, I think your is missing, and it's definately plastic since its kind of a silencer. Just saw all the parts on the shelf at The autozone parts section 10 minutes ago. You won't fix anything unless you try.

I bought the plastic things to put on my strikers. MUCH better.
