Vanity plates

Anyone got good ideas for vanity plates on a 57 super88?I'm in TEXAS so i only get 6 characters. SUPER8,SUPR57,57-OLDS,OLD-ERA,OLD-TYM,

I just applied for vanity plates here in MO and mis-read the directions, they provided seven squares to fill out but only allow six characters PLUS a dash or space. So my choices of OLDSGUY, OLDZGUY, FATOLDS, etc were all disqualified. Sounds like you have thought yours out.

See that's where i get confused since i'm not familiar with olds,would my car be considered a rocket 88 even though the fenders say super88?

No, the term rocket was used by Oldsmobile PR people to refer to the V8 engine. I am not sure if this started in 1949 with the introduction of the first V8 Oldsmobile had but know that by the fifties that term was common. Now, all Oldsmobile V8's are referred to as a rocket, although not always and not by everyone. It is sort of redundant to say "rocket V8", sort of like saying "round ball". Super 88 was also a PR invention. So the recommendation of 57RCKT would be appropriate, describing your 1957 Oldsmobile, since it has a V8 engine, sort of identifies it as an Olds.

Very good, lets not forget Ike Turner's "Rocket 88" of 1951, argueably the first rock and roll song. That didnt' hurt matters either. See Ya, Jeff

I get 7 letters in Idaho, so my 87' Cutlass Supreme is getting 1987 plates with the word "Cutlass" on them!
