Do you mean after market ignition? If so, you are probably referring to MSD. What year car are you talking about, pre factory HEI? You might do better just getting a factory HEI distributor or an after market Petroniks kit. Were you referring to just the distributor or the distributor and the control box? There has been some discussion about those here and if you do a search it might provide you some good research reading.

Well, I am really not the type to purchase something unless it has a specific purpose or function beyond appearance. I would recommend that if you want to get an MSD ignition system then just contact them and order what you want as it applies to your engine. However, I don't think you could do any better than the stock distributor that your crate engine probably came with with the exception of not having to deal with points wear and the associated preventive maintenance that it occasionally requires. If you want to avoid that maintenance, then I would recommend something like a petronix retrofit kit, everything would fit under the distributor cap you engine has now.

A 75 Olds should already have an HEI distributor.

He mentioned buying a crate 350 and I didn't know if it was a direct replacement or not. You are probably right that it would have an HEI distributor and in that case, no changes are needed.

They have been popular, as appearance items, for many years.

If you are looking for a power increase, it won't happen.
