Talking Delta 350's first day at the track

It was hot, but not too humid, there was a ton of cars there today all getting ready for a national event next weekend at Maple Grove, and both Daytona and I went out 2nd round.

That's all the bad news, time for the good news::

Today was the Delta's first track day since the new motor and trans.

I was very pleased in the results. It was a little bit slower than I thought but only by about 3 tenths.

I didn't like the way the tranny goes thru 2nd gear. It's a very short gear and only stays there for about 2 seconds or less.

It crossed the finish line today running 4100 RPM with an ET of 15.791 @ 86.88 miles per hour A lot of people were surprised to see the car that ran 20.60 last season, running almost 5 full seconds faster this year. According to race-cars.net the car is putting down 204 HP and 265 at the flywheel see here http://www.race-cars.net/calculators...alculator.html The car weighs in at 4070 lbs

I am having traction issues however. I don't know if I stalled it too high, didn't do a good enough burnout, or the tires suck traction wise, but I lost second round to a .286 light and spinning the wheels around 20 feet (I could see the smoke from the tire) and it was loud screech too.

It felt faster on the lauch however, when I floored it, I was hanging on to the steering wheel to keep me in my seat. I put a little stress crack in it today . Maybe it is faster and 2nd gear is screwing everything up. Whatever it is, I'm very happy and proud of the runs the car did today

I think that is pretty respectable. I don't think you need to do a burnout with street tires though. Lots of people do but with street tires you really aren't warming up the rubber enough to make it stickier, remember that street tires are built for mileage and are harder rubber. Next time at the track, avoid the burnout pit altogether, don't even get the tires wet and just stage normally and see what you get. Hope this helps. I bet you could break into the 14s with work and tuning.

Time for some wider skins, if you can fit them in those wheel wells. Next time let some air out for better traction. Try 22 to 25 lbs and see what happens.

As the season ended, I started to run it down to 22 pis in both rears and it worked a lot better.

It's very quick in 2nd gear, hits 2nd and drops to 2500, and by 3200 it's shift into 3rd

Hey good lookin' Olds Redog! Yeah, that last reaction time really hurt you. I'll bet your et's would be even better with a good light and shifting manually. Let us know your next time out!

Reaction time has nothing to do with ET.

I deep staged the car the last race of the season and my rt's got a lot better.

I can deep stage the Alero, it will go red all the time, but the Delta, I had a .150 whth reg staging and a .045, .032, and sadly in the 3rd round a -.007 red, but all still great r/t's
